Location: Winston-Salem, NC | Do all USA Ovations have pretty much the same neck shape and nut width?
The neck on my '03 Collectors is quite thick front to back and quite narrow at the nut compared to most guitars I've had, especially my current PRS with the wide-thin neck profile.
Is there a USA model (Elite, Legend, Collector's, or Adamas) that would have a thinner neck front to back and a wider nut? |

Location: 6 String Ranch | They have changed shapes many times over the years. Most are all 1 11/16 at the nut, except the folklore and classics.
There is an Adamas wide neck and they are fairly thin. |

Location: Winston-Salem, NC | Ok, something is wrong with me...I just measured them and both the Ovation and the PRS have 1 11/16" nut widths. It's just that the neck on the '03 Collectors is a lot thicker and rounder than the PRS. Which Ovations have thinner and flatter neck profiles?
From my research, it might be the Kaman bar neck that is the problem making the neck thicker. Should I look for non-Kaman bar models? |

Location: Phoenix AZ | You need to consider four different factors: WIDTH of the neck, DEPTH (thickness) of the neck, SHAPE (profile) of the neck and STRING SPACING. There is one sure bet when it comes to choosing the neck/nut/spacing you like. IGNORE the numbers and buy what FEELS best in your hands.

Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | Some months ago, I was asking myself the same questions, Nosa, after experiencing some obvious differences in feel. I used a cloth style tape measure and took measurements of the neck width and circumference at the first and 12th frets on the entire lot. The results support Tupp's post. The neck shape, depth and circumference affect feel as much or more than the neck width. It was interesting to see how similar the older Ovations (Legend Ltd, solid bodies) are to pure electrics (Fender Strats, Les Paul 60's slim style) in neck circumference. The Adamas 1581 is closer in dimensions to the chunkier neck of an older Telecaster, i.e., '52 reissue. |

Location: Angoulême - France | Dave il right : it's important to play on different guitar necks and then feel what seems to be the best for you. For example I really love wide and big necks, the good measure is for me the one of my old Dadi's Adamas 1689-7 :
1 7/8" at nut
2 1/4" at 12th fret
Profile Low C like FD14 or UT
Thickness 0,85" at 1st fret and 0,89" at 9th fret (just near the fret)
The Fingerboard Radius is important to : I do prefer flater Radius Than O's standard 10", for me 16" is really better to play better...
Sorry for my bad English langage...
