Hello,

Has anyone dared to cut the deep bowl of an old Ovation 1617 to put a new preamp inside ???
I have the guitar and I have so VIP-5 preamp.
But I have some concerns before punching a hole inside de body !!!
Someone has already done this work ???

Thanks

Search the archives and you'll find some pictures demonstrating how to do this. It's not for the feint-hearted. The hole has to go in exactly the right place, not just any old place, but it can be done.

Easier and cheaper to just get one of these... Zoom A2

Check this out...."12 acoustic guitar/preamp sound character simulations
A simulation module lets you choose among a number of very famous and popular acoustic guitar tones. The different sonic characteristics that depend on body size and shape as well as on the materials used are faithfully reproduced. What's more, a mic module simulates the sound of guitar as recorded through a microphone, with selectable positioning and mic type (dynamic / condenser)."

Let the pedal do the hard work.

I have an A2 and it's a very nice piece of gear. Also one of the sturdiest small pedals i've seen, recommend it.

MWoody has done it for me in the past. He installed an Op50 can into a 1667 for me. Worked excellent, he used a dremel tool

It's not difficult. The critical part is make sure you align the preamp with the curve of the bowl AND set it far enough below the soundboard.
