The deep bowl is way freaking louder that the SSB. I was playing the (parts of) "Malaguena" (that I know) and Sally had to yell to get my attention. Heh. Once I broke out the picks and started playing some 12-bar blues, it got even louder. The kids love it!

Compared to my 1868 SSB Elite, I would swear the neck is thicker on the 1681. The specs for both, though, say 1-11/16". It sure doesn't feel that way, though. Maybe the profile is different? I also wish the 1681 had the satin neck instead of gloss, but I can live with it. ;)

I haven't had a chance to plug it in and record, so I can't comment on the original two-knob preamp vs. the OP-24. Worst case I get an updated preamp from the mothership, right? I don't figure I'll be plugging it in very much anyway.

So far...I give it a thumbs up. Thanks, Arthur, and thanks to all of you at the OFC thing that shared your talent and guitars. Being able to hear, see and play (yes, Brad, I actually did play! Haha!) them was invaluable...and a good reason to be at the tour (for those who need reasons).

The 1681 has a soft v neck, which I prefer, and yes, it is a great sounding guitar. Another one I let get away. I still have the 1537. which is very similar, though not as bright as the 1681.

Thanks, Brad. You did warn me, but I didn't believe it could happen to me. ;) Maybe sometime this summer we can have a little Michigan get together.
