Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | OFC guitar No. 5 has arrived in the great Rocky Mountains safe and in top condition. Opening up the box and finding all the goodies takes me back to those wonderful days of opening up a Christmas stocking during my childhood. Pics coming tomorrow, but I won't be able to put it though its paces until the weekend as other duties call this week. |

Actually these are great guitars. I had a bad case of nerves wondering if the money was spent in vain. I'm finding that I'm loving this guitar, not just the sound, but the craftsmanship as well. It's a keeper..... |

Location: Blue Ridge Mountains | 5 slotheads!? I once changed strings on my 1977 Pacemaker in just over 10 minutes (strings cut to length as well) during a 20 minute brake while on tour years ago...Then an aditional 5 minutes getting it tuned and by the end of the break it was ready to go with the new strings. Only comment I can make in regards to the above situation is: you are very blessed!

Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | Mark, we need to find some time to do that. It would be interesting to hear these side by side. However, it would take a long time for OFC No. 5 to develop anything close to the mojo possessed by your No. 43. You said it best a while back on another post when you revealed that No. 43 may very well be the most oft played of all the original slotheads. |

So do you think Adamas guitars "open up" over time the way wooden guitars do? I always wondered this.

Location: south east Michigan | I have my doubts about any guitar "opening up" in a matter of a few weeks or months. I think it's more about the player learning to get the sound the guitar is capable of.
For instance... when I first got my UTE I played it like it was a piece of fine, delicate china. It didn't take long before I learned just how hard I could spank it before it started to complain. |

Location: The Great Pacific Northwest | As was explained to me, think of a piece of cardboard, with a crease. Like the flaps on a new box. The first time you fold it it over, it's hard to fold, then if you keep bending it back and forth it will get easier and easier. The top of the guitar is no different. The edge where it connects to the body is the hinge or crease if you will. Over time, the vibration affects the rigidness and over time the whole top gets more flexible. Not much more, but some. I would think the Adamas CF tops, thinking the most vibration is in the middle-ish of the top, would start loosening up more at the center point and move outward toward the edge. Unlike normal wood tops I think this action would be much more consistent across the face of the guitar.
There is an interesting point with regard to old speakers. Expecially ones in low power amps like an old fender champ. The edge of the cone was weakened so much, that the slightest voltage causes the speaker to oscillate. Obviously there is a point of diminishing return where the edge gets so weak the cone doesn't stay true, but just before that... talk about articulation.
Fortunately a guitar top doesn't move as much as it just vibrates. |

But I do appreciate your restraint.
I know that you just live to pounce on stuff like that.
I hope someday every OFC member gets the chance to see the results of a laser vibrometer test at the mothership. Take look at that and you'll see just how dynamic the movement of a guitar top is. |

We're gonna come close that this Sunday, with the only variable being the strings.
Too bad that no one person owns all three....... |

We could easily do this in Colorado. Within a 25 mile radius, there are four OFC members who can cover two original slotheads, two 47RIs, and at least one OFC model. |

Location: Latitude 39.56819, Longitude -105.080066 | and I believe that there is one collector in the Southwest who is flying beneath the radar that now owns an original slothead, an OFC, and a #47.
Shame he retired from the OFC board a long time ago.
His comments, though usually irritating, brash, outspoken and politically incorrect to most, were always a treasure to read. |

I have reconsidered. You are worth my time. In fact, as all members here are.
Please take this as formal notice of a pending 30 day suspension of your priviledges here. After the 30 day period you can send an e mail requesting that your account be reactivated.
I am very tired of playing word games, correcting posted mis information and ultimately being harassed and ridiculed by your ilk.
My suggestion is to find another message baord where you can attack and harass the administrator.
have a great day. |
