Wow Jim, Nice grab. Looks like it's almost a local pickup for you too :-)

Ovation lighted sign on the Bay

I spotted this earlier today and had it bookmarked as I had to run my daughter out to a party. Otherwise it would have been finding its way to Casa Miller. Hope it fits in nice at your place :-)

There must be more than one, because I bought one today as well.

Thanks, I'll let them ship it for 8 bucks. I'm going to have to get a bigger music room soon. You might want to check with the seller, there may be more. Stuart, It'll fit right next to the 06. :D

The seller said that he got a deal on a truckload of assorted signs, and that he is sorting through them.

It's not the real Ovation logo, note the headstock. So he's probably just printing them off and putting into the frames.

Maybe the headstock is trademarked and the guy making these doesn't have a license? I wonder if Kaman pursues that kind of thing.

Actually there is a guy selling t-shirts on the bay and the same headstock applies, which got me over to Miles Ebay store and lo an behold the headstock on the Ovation fan Club logo also has the squared off headstock.

Then I went to the www.ovationguitars.com and stared really hard at the logo. Looks damned close to the lighted signs to me...headstock and all.

This is a guy with a sign/graphics business whose probably "cranking" them out and posting 'em on eBay (probably making them up AS they sell). Did ya' notice that the Ovation/BMW/Triumph signs all pretty much look the SAME?

For about 200 bucks, you can buy a CD of thousands of corporate logos in .eps format (we buy one every year or so t'keep our library at work "up to date").

For the price ($69 delivered), it seems reasonable, particularly if the wood frame is decent. As soon as somebody takes delivery of one of these models, let us know what you think.

OK, the sign showed up today. I had called the guy to check on the shipping and he said they usually ship out the end of each week. At that time I changed my order to one with an oak frame instead of the mahogany that I originally bought. It really looks nice lit up or not. I believe it's worth the money and makes a nice addition to office or studio. I don't know if this guy is knocking them off or really has a finite number of them, but if you're interested, I think he still has them listed.

Trader Jim, can you comment on how the Ovation logo is affixed to the plastic lens?

The plastic is a kind of a multi hued opaque tan color and the logo seems to be in the plastic rather than a silk screen overlay. I don't know, but it really is well done, even at close inspection. I know, other than the logo, you could build the box and light it for probably 20 bucks. but all together it seems to be worth it.

It's smaller than I thought. I guess I didn't read the ad very well. Might fit nicely in the music room.
I also noticed that his other listings include some big names like Porsche. Porsche's lawyers are very sticky about trademark and copyright violations, so if they see his ebay ads they might try to shut him down.

You could replace it with this much cooler looking sign (would fit in frame).

I could send the .eps file to Al and he can get them produced for anyone who wants one (maybe Cliff knows someone who can make them up). Right style of bridge and traditional Ovation headstock.

If I'm stepping on anyone's toes as far as copyright infringement, pull this posting and I'll delete the file.

Probably copyright infringement claims. Maybe not Ovation but I'll bet money Porsche wasn't happy. eBay is quick to shut down sellers who infringe.

For Mike and others...We'll let's see what the end of the week brings. Reply from Mark James Design below:

We're OK. That's exactly what happened. A law firm for Krispy Kreme doughnuts of all things reported me for trademark violation. I'm on suspension for a week or so, but I have your sign going out by the end of the week. I understand your concern, but rest assured it's all good. Gonna have a lot of fires to put out now.

OK, Cliff. I can't speak for Bob, but I know that I pay extra for a doughnut to have the Krispy Kreme label on it. To me it doesn't mean that it's better, but Krispy Kreme thinks it's important to maintain that image in order to maintain it's market. Substitute Porsche or Taylor or any other well known brand name and you get the same thing. You pay for the name.

I paid for the horsepower and lateral g's. I'd still have mine even if it was named Porky. As for Taylor, that's my Mom's maiden name and she traded it in for some beads and a shiny rock.

Okay, a major designer secret here, but brandsoftheworld.com has thousands of corporate logos in vector .eps format, including Ovation, free. Also sports teams, and all sorts of logos.

Comes in handy for me all the time. There's a search bar at the bottom.

Yes. They plainly state that they are not clip art. I think they are submitted either by the license holder or with their consent.

But check this out:

Last week I had a customer who sells window blinds call me up needing an ad. And they wanted the Visa, Mastercard, and Discover logos and a window blind manufacturer logo (they are a priority dealer).

I looked them up, chose the credit card logos from the dozens of styles there, and had all four logos in 10 minutes. In less than an hour I was emailing the ad to the publication.

That makes an impression.

But you're right Brad. Any sign maker could go there and steal an Ovation logo and make a sign (or Fender, or Gibson...)

The Ovation logo looks oddly familiar to the one on several banners I had custom made. No Adamas, however.
