Location: SoCal | Ok, I've spent a little time with this guitar and can talk about it. As soon as I got it, I changed the strings so now there's some sparkle when I play it.
First, the appearance of it. For a guitar with a blue top and sparkles, it's a very organic looking guitar. From the headstock and neck (all carved from one piece of wood), to the epaulets and top ring, it has a very organic look to it. Very warm looking, it has none of the abalone bling of my 87C. I like it, but it's going to take a little time to get used to it. By the way, the burst on the top (which doesn't show up in the pictures posted)appears to be done with the gold sparkle on the top. It's very light in the middle and heavier around the edge.
The sound is also unique. It's got that Adamas voice -- very clear, very loud. It doesn't sound like any other guitar I own (including Big Blue). It's the first guitar I've ever owned where my wife said that she could hear a difference in the sound. It's a real big sound. This sucker's an absolute canon! I'm going to take it to an outdoor jam tonight and see how it sounds (and also have somebody else play it so I can stand back and listen).
Overall, I'm very excited. |

I don't what strings you've put on it,
but play 'em for a while, and the NEXT time you change 'em, throw a set of EJ16's on it and LemmeKnow your impressions . . . |

Location: SoCal | One thing interesting about my guitar is that on the back, if you look at the bowl just below the neck heel, you can see what looks like a stain. It can be seen very clearly in the pics Jerome posted on his website, but it's much less clear in person. I tried to clean it off but apparently, it's from when the back material was applied.
I suppose I could send it back, but it makes this guitar distinctive. While it's not easily seen, I could pick this guitar out of a stack of OFC guitars w/o having to look at the number. I kinda like that and have no intention of changing it. The more I look at this guitar, and the more I play it, the more I like it..... |

Oh yeah, wipe that sheety grin off of your face, it takes away from the guitar's great looks. :D |

Location: SoCal | Played it tonight in a group setting, unplugged. Gotta say, this guitar is great! It's got a huge sound, is easy to hear even when fingerpicked (and others are playing loudly) and it sounds good up and down the neck (at least I think it would if I knew more than 3 chords). It's as light in weight as my GC reissue (no K-bar) and got great comments on it's appearance. My wife even says it's the best looking guitar I own (well, that the bank and I own).
I'm pleased and am looking forward to the swag boxes which should arrive on Monday. |

I am looking forward to the comparisons.
When Cliff was in town and we all met at Mikes, we had TWO original slotheads and a #47 RI. They all sounded great. Can't imagine anyone being unhappy with any guitar of this quality and I know the OFC guitar is right up there in the same class as the others. |

"Actually, in the back of the factory there are 3 guys, Larry, his brother Daryl and his other brother Daryl, who decide which guitars go where... and they've been pissed at Europe for a long time."
It seems to me that they are currently pissed of Southern Californa.
Joking aside. From what I have seen on the pics from the factory tour these guitars are largely hand-made. Compared to machine-made guitars it's quite normal that they have their own cosmetic personality. I can also find this personality if I have a close look to my #47RI. I'm sure there are no structural problems with these guitar - even in the long-run. As long it doesn't bother you there is no problem with that. I'm not sure if I would accept a stain on the bowl although I have more problems with warranty claims (as you know there is a small pond between the factory and my home).

My attitude towards my guitars (almost all my guitars) is that these ain't no museum pieces. They're here to be played and they all tell a story. I can look at all the nicks and dings on my guitars and they tell me where they've been and what they've done.
Believe me, the way the guitar looks in the picture is much more pronounced that it looks in person. The flash must have really brought it out. In person, you'd never see the stain unless you spent time looking for it. It's just something that tells me that "this is my guitar and it ain't no factory assembly line" instrument. |

Guitars should not be Museum pieces. They are to be played and tell a story! How nicely said!!!

It's really such a small thing, but when I first looked at the gold leaf inlays on the neck, I thought that they were too faded - or not "gold" enough. I pretty much accepted that these are all hand made and it was just the way mine was built. I wouldn't trade it for anything.
I saw the spot on Moody's in the pics as well and thought the same thing... no one elses looks exactly like his. |

Crimson I think you are right. The original Adamas (the later ones, since the early ones seem to have white inlays) had saturated solid gold fingerboard inlays. You can see it on all Jerome's photos. The 47RIs have a thin golden inlay on the border (periphery) of the "grape-leaves" inlays. When I called the Adamas Custom Shop and requested a quote for a solid gold fingerboard inlay the list price was astronomical! |

O.K. The truth is that I contacted the Adamas custom shop thru a dealer other than Al. It was VERY expensive to build it with solid gold inlays!
What's wrong with that? |

What's wrong with that? With the dollar dropping and precious metals on the rise, I'm not surprised. If it were 1990 or so, it'd probably be about 1/3 the price, eh?
Speaking of metal inlays...that cat's eye Adamas that TTenn had at the tour (what was the final model number for that?) was very sharp. At first glance, the inlays appeared to me to be aluminum, which would match the rim on the sound hole. The abalone is very nice, but man, aluminum would seriously complete the look of that guitar. Maybe some brushed finish tuning machines, too (right, Fred?!).
EDIT: Unless you used 10K for the gold inlays, I wonder if they'd be too soft. |

you said repeatedly you CALLED the Adamas custom shop. I and others asked you for the number. since it does not exist, you are therefore not credible.
It does not matter where you purchase a guitar but mis information will NOT be tolerated here.
I suggest strongly you think about what you post and insure that it is factual before you post it. |

I did not mean to misinform you guys, and I am sorry for the inconvenience!
But i trully don't deserve this kind of hostility.

| Hey Dave, thanks!
I get it, you are right, it is highly confusing!
Now that I read it looks like I wanted to provoke you guys, I am truly sorry (especially to Al!) but this is not the case, honestly!!!
It's a loooong story!
A few months ago i was crazy about an older 1687 (still am), i had posted on the forum, many people responded giving me advice. I also considered the 47RI and I also thought about the OFC Adamas (I had contacted Al at the time), but also thought of a custom Adamas. God knows how many dealers i've contacted (Elderly music, different GC centers, 8th srteet music, sam ash, etc, etc).
I MEANT that I have contacted the Adamas thru dealers. The ovation/Adamas number I was given is 860-379-7575. But then, i did not get the extension.
After long discussions with a GC dealer in Cherry Hill NJ I remember him stating that the OFC adamas (after he contacted the Adamas shop) had a plain blue top. My bad! I should have asked Al on first place. Later on, another dealer told me that after he contacted adamas he was told that the OFC was blue-burst...what a mess huh?
Among other things a sam-ash dealer (after he contacted ovation/adamas) told me that the 47RI were limited to 87, i am pretty sure he said 87.
Guys, especially Al, my sincere apologies man!
I stand corrected! sorry for the confussion!
.....yes, by the way my name is Giuseppe and I am not a troll! :)
I am still looking for an Adamas though...maybe I should email Al again....I hope he is not that upset with me....Al? |
