Location: Isle of Man, UK | Last night I was lucky enough to see The Who as they were over here opening a mini-festival. First time they've played the Island since 1967.
Played everything you would expect to hear and a few more: Pinball Wizard, Kids are Alright, Won't get fooled Again... absolutely everything for well over 90 minutes straight.
Alongside Mr's Townshend and Daltry were Pino Palladino on Bass (he doesn't half get around!) Townshend's brother on backing guitar and vocals, and Zak Starkey who unlike his father Ringo is a drummer (sorry - cheap shot, but always makes me smile!!)
Holy moses. They give me hope for the future - if they can still do it all after 45 years or so (which they can) why should any of us f-f-f-f-fade away?!
What a storming evening!

I've never heard of Pino Palladino. Why was he drinking Bass? Don't you sell Guinness over there in The Land That Time Forgot?

actually, it pissed me off!
Never appreciated them for that very reason. |

Location: south east Michigan | In the early years they couldn't afford smashing the equipment either. But it was their "thing" and to was such a "rock & roll" thing to do.
I never miss a WHO show. Townshend is still one hell of a muscian and showman. Zak Starky is fantastic. Pino on bass is servicable but is not Entwistle by any streach. Roger & Pete were always complaining to John about being to loud. Imagine that... Townshend bitching to someone else about to much volume.
Sadly, Roger has lost a note or two in the last 7 years. Compare the concert recordings of the last time out with John and now & you'll see. You can tweak your amp and change guitars but there is not much you can do with such an organic thing as vocal chords.
That being said, their current live show has more musical quality and is tighter than any Stones show ever done.
Cholloway... They offered a DVD of every U.S. concert. Did they do that for you?? For something like $15 you get the entire concert. And all the proceeds go to cancer kids.
Yep... I'm a Who fan. That's my band.

I never said I didn't like their music, just didn't appreciate their destruction of instruments. It just wasn't "my thing". |

Location: Orlando, FL | Brad, I have always been a Who fan too. But its funny to say Daltry has lost a note or two in the last few years. I remember thinking the same thing back in 1980 seeing them on their "farewell tour".
Is it still like seeing the Who with just Daltry and Townsend? I'd still go see them if them come though here though, so many great songs! |

Then they lost John.
Now, this time through they are promoting a new album that even has me yawning. And Roger is struggling.
That being said, it's still a great show to see. Still a lot of hits. Still a lot of good, tight muscianship. |

And it was mentioned on the WHO website last week that Myers has backed out. It seems like the fact that Myers is currently 12 years older than Moon was when he died has become a problem. Too bad. If they had done the movie years ago I think Myers would have been a good choice.

I'll drift over to it from time-to-time, but after a while, it's almost like "too much of a good thing" . . .
It's the same with Buffett's "Margaritaville" Channel (although, everytime I go over there t'hear some Buffett, all I get is goddam Springsteen, Dead, Phish, or DaveMatthews) :rolleyes:
Their ClassicRock Channel, "The Vault" does a one-hour, late night show called "Progressions" where they play a lot of classic ProgRock. This week, they've been playing it ALL week! I've been in Heaven!!! Old Genesis, ELP, Strawbs, Gentle Giant, Nektar(they played "Remember the Future" and I nearly shat myself!!). I've been going "out" t'lunch (and taking the "Long Way Home") all week just t'have more time in the car. If they made it a dedicated Channel, I'd be a Pig in Sh!t . . .
Jeanette's boss is an actual Who FanATic!!
He's on speaking terms with Townshend, and has the absolute LARGEST collection of Who recordings, photos, memorabilia and ephemera. He had it up for sale at one time, but only under the condition(s) that he sell it all "intact" and that the respective "buyer" KEEPS it intact . . .
Jeanette gave me the url once, I'll see if I can find it.
This guy's a REAL "character". Jeanette can't have a conversation with him that's even reMOTEly music-oriented, as (to him), "Music" and "theWho" are synonomous. Period. End of Story.
There IS no other "music" . . . . |

The last time I saw them was the same year that people got trampled at one of their shows. I saw them at Shea Stadium and was on the field. It was raining but still a great show. |

I've seen the band 4 times. The first time was in '74 and sadly that was the only time that I got to see Keith Moon.
I can't accept the band today as "The Who" without John Entwistle. Pete's brother does play a mean guitar though. |

Unfortunately my work now blocks Sirius on line. I used to listen at work all the time. I got Sirius free with the chick car, but only seem to listen to it online (at home).

It's "blocked" at work for me as well.
(As is access to YouTube, and even some photos that might be "linked" on posts here).
I mainly listen in the car, or here at home.
I've been listening to "Disorder" alot, as they tend t'mix the genres alot (but I'm REALLY gonna' miss all this Prog programming once it goes back to "normal" at midnight t'night . .) I hope they bring it back "full-time" eventually. |
