| Hi, when I got my 97 Collectors's, I thought it had very wide grain spruce. I recently took some pictures of it with my GC 12 and the difference in grain width is substantial. I asked Kim at Kaman if it could be Adirondack and he kind of summed it up to "anythig is possible", but he could not say for certain. This top has an incredible tap tone and the guitar is amazing...that is for sure.

As I recall, by 1970 the Adironack Spruce was more or less gone. The Sitka spruce will be more or less gone, in 6 years. It takes 125 to get a mature tree, and they only started replanting them in the 1960 or 70's
So enjoy! |

| Thanks to all. Well, then living proof that there is nothing wrong with sitka spruce. I did read on frets.com that a wider grain top will yield more bass output and that might be one of the reasons this guitar amazes me with its tone and output.
Thanks again to all. |

It's just something for the guitar journos to write about because the whole vintage thing is just about done and they're runing out of ideas. None of it matters, a guitar either moves you or not, and the species of soundboard wood is very minor in that. Use your ears and instinct instead of relying on magazine/web hype. To quote Mr K, it's all just flavours of Ice Cream. Yes they sound different, but "different" does not necessariy mean better or worse. |

Maybe it's time to quit while I'm ahead. |
