Location: Fresno | Hi I saw this news clip online yesterday ,a picture of Rock , Blues guitar player , Jordan Rivers playing what looks like an Ovation 1777-LX model. Check out his studio also.Great pics for Ovation lovers.I wonder if Ovation gives him his guitars for playing in front of large crowds. I guess All the real big names get there guitars for free. Here is link ... http://www.freewebs.com/musicnewsusa/
Thanks Jack
P.S. That's a beautiful Guitar, I can't wait to get his album. Anyone out there know where I can buy it? |

Creative marketing. :) I guess we all have to wait until August until the album is released if he really is "the greatest all around Rock, Blues Guitarist to ever live." There's some pretty tough competition out there for that crown. I've never heard of him and there's nothing on the web, so I'll reserve judgment. Maybe you can point us to an audio file where we can hear him play his Legend?

His singing style (EP) reminds me of somebody (EP) past. Just can't quite put my (EP) finger on it. |

He's good, but not THAT good...

It's the worst website i've seen in few months.
Photo was edited in Paint on Win 98, or sth like this.
And who the hell is G.W. Williams that he can write such an opinions about "Jordan"?.
I bet that the counter was intially set on "320000" or near to 320000.
From the musical point of view i don't see how he can be even mentioned in one sentence with "the greatest all around Rock, Blues Guitarist to ever live"
btw.
one of the first references to Jordan Rivers on google is to a porn actor. |

But I already purchased his CD at a concert.
I have to say everyone has guitar heros so getting an honest opinion here would be very hard.
But I did pull out my eric clapton DVD of the 2004 crossroads concert. And I compared Jordan Rivers to the best on there.I would say Jordan Rivers in my opinon, can play with the best in the world. If he was world famous he deserve a top 10 ranking.Listen to his style,it's all his own and he really shines on acoustic, guitar you can't fake that. The question may be is he th best in the world.I'd rank him personally in 5th place amoung living guitar players today. But he's better than Clapton and 99.9% of those people playing on that concert. It's rare to hear someone who can really play acoustic guitar as well as he does, and no I don't think he sounds like Elvis like the guy above stated 3 times. He's not faking his voice like imperrsonators do,you would be able to hear that.He sounds more Ricky Nelson, some Elvis and Neil Diamond.I would say his voice reminds of the past.BUt to say he sound like Elvis....I don't think so.I will show this CD to the guys at the studio I sing demos for and see what they say.Jordan Rivers is very good, top 5 I feel, but there's still 4 players in the world I'd say are better.Sorry that's my opinon...I hope he can make it higher in the rankings, time will tell. But I have him 5th best.

But everyone's entitled to an opinion, I suppose. If you don't have one I've got several I can share.
It does appear, at first glance, like the two newbies are using the site as part of a marketing plan. More power to them if so, say I.
Every artist needs to take and make every opportunity they can imagine to make their career. It's a very hard row to hoe and I fault no one for taking every advantage...and I've seen some of the worst things imaginable done to 'make it.' (Most of those class of efforts don't work. But some do.)
If it's just a little puffery in an obscure (or thirty or forty) website. What's the harm?
By the same token, said artist invites criticism...said artist gets criticism. (But I'm sure we mean that in the NiCeSt way possible!) |

I'm a hardcore George Benson and Stevie Ray Vaughan Fan all the way. But guitarest Jordan Rivers is very good.
And anyone playing an Ovation at his level taking on the world with his Ovation.
Gets thumbs my up.
Everyone today wants a Taylor it seems.
I say Let Ovation guitar become number 1 again.
Let Jordan play it !

I like Billy's songs because they're TRUE. This guy expresses himself when he plays, and at least he doesn't act like star. He didn't wrote on his website that he's probably the best guitar player ever. He isn't.
And Jordan isn't either.
No one became "thw best guitar player ever" by marketing.
By the way. Now i'm sure that Jordan's site has faked counter. In over a week there was only about 150 visitors, and i bet that those were mostly people from this forum.
And i don't see how this webpage could get 300,000 with avg of 20 visitors/day
stop lying and acting and start working. |

This reminds me of a chugging contest where only one person keeps chugging.

Lets see some one take him on like Lanaki or someone better?....and by the way figure picking aint going to get the job done.....he's beyond that simple stuff....that's for beginners.....he's also very advanced in classical and jazz, rock, blues. That's why I know you can't beat him. Your just picking a fight and I'm not backing down.
I don't mean to hurt people here. But you judge before you know anything....maybe you should do more studying..........by the way finger picking folk style guitar players of the 60's movment don't do well these days.....it's not original,Only the old hippies like it.Ands the only reason you guys like it...is because you can't play anything better.Maybe you need lessons?
That's the truth and you know it
And Lanaki.......you know your not in his league you only wish you where...that';s why you go posting all over the place with your website.......He'll blow you away.....it will only takes seconds...A GOD Given Talent and years of study, theroy and writting...YOU CAN"T BEAT THE MAN !.....He's that much better than you'll ever be.....I've seen him and I've watched you....Nobody will ever give you a contract to tour the world....Why would they?If you can't figure it out...go take a real listen to your music...it lacks thought.....it lacks style....it lacks heart and soul. It goes nowhere........I'm sorry to tell you taht but I work in a studio.....I know.

One of the best guitar players I've ever heard and known says that it's not "working" the guitar, it's "playing" the guitar (take a bow, Matthew).
You sound like my teenage kids, with everything being a contest. It's not. Life isn't. It's not is somebody better than somebody else. Anything else is a bit immature.
Speaking of immature, what's the 48dd refer to? |

I've rethought my original reference to a chugging contest. Now I'm thinking this sounds more like every dork who pulls up beside me at a stop light and wants to race. Is he better? Probably at something. Do I care?
My favorite is when a rice burner is along side me racing his engine and didn't see that there was road construction ahead in his lane. He dropped off the pavement and slammed on the brakes when he bottomed out. The rice burner kid behind him who was trying to get in on the "race" rearended him. I bet they weren't thinking they could beat me after that. |

I play only to support my singing.I studied jazz in college and I'm a professional studio singer. In radio and TV short spots.
I play keyboard also.I bought the one of the epiphone electric guitars so my son would be interested in playing in school.......But I pick the electrics up once a week and I also play the ovation every night for a bit while I write songs for commercials.

I will tell you this the CD is very good and that recording online is very very bad.No wonder everyone is mad at me.Trust me it's a very good CD.
Sorry Heather |

1. No matter how much you think you know, somebody else knows more.
2. No matter how right you think you are, others will disagree with you.
3. Just play fair and be kind, even if you think you know it all and even if you think you are always right.
Remember, at those times when this board gets you frustrated, irritated, feeling misundersttod, or wronged ... YOU ARE HAVING A DISCUSSION WITH A COMPUTER AND A BUNCH OF LOSERS JUST LIKE YOU WHO ALL MET EACH OTHER ON AN INTERNET FORUM. WE ARE PATHETIC.

I'm not sure why this is.......so if some of you hear it bad,it's Rhapsody's system messing up.But I was able to hear it very clean in another area.I guess when it comes on itunes and Napster in a couple months it will be a lot better there.

"Being kissed by Jordan Rivers"
and on the third page of results was this...
"Gary's alter ego Jordan Rivers"
I reckon if the other Jordan Rivers had such a reputation and 300k+ website hits, there'd be a few more images of him floating around in cyberspace.
Just because someone is "fast" doesn't make them "the best". It's more to do with having a feeling for what they're playing.
Ask 10 random people who the top 5 guitarists in the world are, and you'd end up with 50 names. And I'd be surprised if any of them mentioned J. R. |

that is the stuff..i ordered it as you suggested and FINALLY FINALLY i have heard what my 1778LX sounds like WITH ACTUAL FRESH STRINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thanks dave, i was seriously contemplating offing this guitar and never looking back to ovations. the added crispness in sound and feel now assures that i'll have it for "ever".
any doubters out there who think their strings are "new" when restringing the pinless should try the aformentioned tubes while stringing.
thanks dave! |

In one day alone she managed to inform us that she looks great in a bathing suit (her opinion), she's an accomplished professional musician (aren't we all), the mis-interpretation of her post was due to computer errors at Rhapsody (sure), she knows Hal Jordan (no surprise there), and eggs on the boys with inuendo's about her 48dd tits without ever mentioning her other body dimensions or weight. It's a common rookie mistake. They fail to realize that we do this ALL day, EVERY day, for YEARS and YEARS. But we're not pathetic.

Also I didn't hear that Jordan Rivers even has a web site.I know his music is on the radio from time to time. That's all.And he does concerts.
Can't tell you more than that. But keep searching.Maybe you'll find him.
One point to make..the real Jordan Rivers looks like Ricky Nelson if you remember him.Same type face and build.

These stings are great for recording and last a lot longer than other strings and stay in tune better. For electric I like D'Addario chrome 11's.
They last and are great for jazz and hard rock and anything in between. Those are my picks.Next picks would be Martin strings and then Adamas........

The folks who post the majority of comments on these forums have personally met one another, commonly transact business with each other, shared many good times and laughs, and have also encouraged one another through a few tough challenges. We're in this for long haul, so we continuing relationships is important to us. We value collaboration over competition.
This site can be intimidating for new people because while we initially join because of our interest in guitars, Ovation in particular, we stay for other reasons. A lot of the banter appearing in these posts is just tongue and cheek humor between friends. Keeping it light, humorous and engaging is entertaining and what we cherish. Get serious and challenging with somebody in particular, even yourself, you may have to deal with the wrath of the entire clan.
We can't take anybody too seriously here, particularly ourselves. |

Location: Nashville | Ok Guys...Listen to this.........I finally got listed on Rhaspody I had to down load thier Play Engines because the songs were not playing right(I don't know if you guys had that trouble everything sound way off,but I have his CD so I knew something was wrong)
But once the problem was fixed I listened to Jordan Rivers online and compared his Guitar, rock, blues to a few others.........And......
I can tell you this it's more than just his hand speed,he has a touch just like Eric Clapton and the rest of the best in the world. He's that good.I've heard old timers like John Lee Hooker and people said had raw talent, but Jordan Rivers is far beyond that.I know who Robert Johnson is and Hooker and the whole history of blues, but Rivers is also a Rock and Jazz man,and it shows, the man knows guitar leads into the ground and plays so many chords I wouldn't be surpirsed if he plays over 25,000 chords like those chord books, you can tell he's well schooled also in theroy it really stands out.
If you really get a chance to listen to all of Jordan Rivers songs, there's a lot of heart in them....not because they are gospel.Rivers is raw talent that has been schooled veryb well.Ever since the world began man has been improving is art form of music.Rivers just takes it to a very high level. But What I got from his concert, was the fact that this man has fun playing. He can do it all and he knows it.But he doesn't brag or anything,....all I can tell you is this.If you ever get a chance to see his concert go.....forget the gospel part and go see a master have fun.He has fun with the crowd. He is a pure joy to watch.I remember Clapton a few years ago.He was good but played a lot tighter. These days I love listening to Clapton play....and a lot more....because eric has loosened up.He's having fun these past 10 years. And it's a joy to watch eric play.I think you guys know what I am talking about.Jordan Rivers has that.Rivers is not scared to play,he takes what looks like huge chances to you and me.He plays so smooth it with a style that's very strong. He can rattle the best guitar players because he is that good.Yet he never wants to rattle anyone.I think he just tries to play the very best he can and he won't back down at all.If I had to say it...he competes in a way with himself always going for something more. But he's so smooth and that smile and his eyes light the place up.You just have to be there.
Also I'd like to say I am sorry for making people upset here.I just found a new guitar hero of my own I guess.I'm not really into Gosepl music,I went with a friend to a concert. And I was in awe.
Thanks Guys Heather48dd |

I listened to the tracks, and (personally) thought it sucked big time. My opinion.
The "beauty" of the whole thing is that you can listen to the CD to your DDHeart's Content, and I (fortunately) don't have to . . .

This thread ain't about Jordan Rivers any more...
We (well, I) don't give a flying fig about how good he or any of his followers think he is.
Everybody here has their own guitar heros, and I haven't heard anybody else on this forum try to ram them down everybody else's throats.
Don't you get it? You post stuff that stirs the pot and get stirred up replies. It doesn't matter what you stir the pot with, but that it's been stirred.
You're obviously intelligent, possibly eye candy, and if you're half as passionate about Ovations as you are about J. R, you'll be a welcome addition to this 'club'.
Lets put J.R. to bed and leave him there. You love him - great, we don't - equally great. This thread has been strangely compelling and I want to do something else now.
Anything.
But I know if you keep posting, I (we'll) keep reading. |

I can play that fast and and even faster.
(this one was recorded on electric guitar, but on O i can play nearly as fast as here.)
break my fingers
and i still know 2 persons in my city that can play even faster. |

But it's unlikely your boy is the equal of Davy Graham or any of a dozen other obscure guitar gods....the heavans, and the clubs, are full of them.
He'll have a better career being nice to everyone on the way up, because you meet all the same people on the way down. |

Everybody's too caught up in who can play the fastest or the most technically perfect. It's a question of who can make music, and when it comes to that, there are no winners or losers.
Jeez, how many times do I gotta explain it to you people? |

When you're 40

When you're 60
.....you realize they weren't thinking about you
.....at all.
As I am much closer to 60 now than any of the other options, I realize that once this is read you will promptly cease to think about me, which is perfectly o.k.
Dualing guitars at 30 paces? Nah. Not here. But not because we're cowards, or technically incompetent, or can't sing or any other illogical conclusions. Basically, it's because those of us on the board who are good enough to go there don't have anything to prove, and those of us who aren't don't have anything to prove, either. (By the way, I am not one of the "good enough" ones, but that's o.k--it's people like me who provide contact for all those of you who are.) That's the beauty of this group--I have never been made aware of the fact that I'm not a really great picker or vocalist by those who are better than I, and I just hope that I will be able to encourage someone else along the way as they have me.
Just my two cents,

Location: Nashville | Little Boy Jerrerson....your not going to hear his hand speed on the CD.He's just playing songs on there and not showing off.....I know he's many times faster if he wants to be......but he use's that speed in concerts , not on the CD.In his concert he said the CD was recorded only as a practice to hear the songs and be sure they were ready for concerts.....But He like the recording so he released it.I know it's raw and not recorded in a pro studio. But it's still every well done. Also I've Seen the speed,he's lighting fast. And he never has to touch an open string to do that. His lead scales are so fast he said in concert ,Why bother playing that fast.People won't hear it.It goes right by them. And I'd say he's right. He goes more for the touch. But tyrust me the speed to burn is there. His song.... ( Electric Son Rise ) song is not played fast at all.But I've heard it on radio before and I am sure that's what your talking about....if you think that's fast guess again...you have no idea of his speed....your talking out your hat....really.....He plays music, not speed. But he has the speed to play as fast as anyone world wide.No one in your city is faster, I'd bet on that !! So you are wrong there. Also I guess you guys are tired of hearing me talk.So I will leave this Ovation forum because that's what I feel is needed. You guys take care.I don't pull any punches and I can take it......But I am ruinning this area for you all. It's been fun anyways.
I won't be back to ruin this for you finger pickers......and I mean that in a nice way. That's the style you love.
Take Care bye sweeties...Heather4dd |

perhaps heather is actually "jordan rivers" in drag? |

But Jordan did tap into something (probably not Heather), maybe we ARE a little too closed minded about fast guitar playing and rock shredding metal licks. So, here you go boys. Light up a big fat doobie, turn down the lights and check THIS out ...
Choose Magic Carpet Tour, and then Lesson at the right. Make sure the sound is on.

Seriously Heather, nobody wants you to go. Just find something else to post about than Jordan Freaking Rivers! I'm not going to be presumptuous and use the words "nobody" or "we", I'll just speak for myself. I don't know who in the hell he is and I don't freaking care, or ever want to know.
He's your hero, and that's great. If I spent 12 pages of posts trying to ram MY guitar hero down everyones throat I'm sure I'd receive the same cold shoulder as you have.
I hope you don't leave, but if you do, thanks for some interesting banter.
