Just realized that I have been on at least 4 different tours of the Ovation factory, but I can't seem to remember ever seeing a "cell" or work area where the oval stickers are applied to the bowl.

Anybody see this being done?

The company in Ohio that makes the bowls puts the label with the model number and finish designation in the bowl. They also print out the serial number stickers and send those separately.

Then, when the bowls get to the factory, someone has to go through and sort them all out and match everything up so that the bowl that has model XXXX with finish Y and serial number ZZZZZ gets the right top and neck and tuners and bridge and stuff.

I think the whole scheme was developed with some sort of pseudo-JIT methodology in mind. But, it was the 80s and everyone was doing a lot of cocai..well, anyway, it's not the most efficient, maybe, but it seems to work.

Ah, the 80's.

Went by so fast that if you sneezed.....

....you were thrown out of the party.
