From the start Paul Templeman has been a "Be There" kind of guy.
It seems a though he is always lurking... just waiting for a chance to pounce and be helpful with any techical question. And they are seldom short, quick answers.
A number of times over the last 3 tours I have seen Paul respond to a question by giving a virtual mini-lesson in alternate tunings or slide technique.
And needless to say, there is not a bigger promoter of the Ovation brand out there.

We had a little fun at the presentation. We made it seem as though Cliff had won. Cliff accepted the applause, got up to the podium, removed the ribbon covering the name plaque and said... "Hey.. this isn't my f%&$ing name on this thing!!!"

Well deserved by Master Templeman.

I actually heard someone else at the tour use the term "Helmholtz Frequency", so I guess it really does exist. Not sure how the voting is done (maybe the pope is involved) but personally I would have given him the award just based on the fact that he's one of the most sick witted SOB's I've ever met.

Congratulations to Paul. His contributions to this board can't be measured, and his support of the Ovation brand is unsurpassed.

I also have NO idea of how the whole voting procedure for this has been, but in the words of my TransAtlantic CosmicSibling, it’s (so far)been “spot-ON”.
Phil has always been VERY kind, VERY giving, and ALWAYS willing to rise to the occasion (oft-times, with camera in hand), and does so with good cheer and of good humour.

There was an instance Friday where we all were mustered out front of the Factory for the Group Photo. We were all assembled together behind the banner in the QUITE chilly breeze while a cold rain started to fall. It was then and ONLY then that Phil started to unpack his equipment for the shot and assemble it. For (what seemed like) MANY minutes we stood and shivered while Phil hurriedly tried to get everything together amidst MANY “comments” (all of course, at his expense). One woman standing near me (whom I assumed had never been to the Tour before) commented: “. . Boy! . . this guy must REALLY have a good sense of humour t’be taking all of this “abuse” with such a smile!! . .” I turned to her and said: “. . No. – he just doesn’t understand English . .”
THANKS, Phil!!

The very moment I met Paul Templeman, I felt that he and I both fell to Earth in the same SpacePod which split upon entry into the atmosphere and landed on opposite sides of the water (each possibly on the “wrong” side).

Paul’s Humour, Talent, Knowledge, Kindness, Candor, and Willingness to Share are equaled ONLY by his capacity (and fervour) for Food&Drink, and his incessant capability to make me laugh until I cry. Every time he comes to visit, the anticipation of his arrival increases (as is my sadness when he eventually goes Home).

When Brad asked if I’d be willing to be “in” on his little “scam” in the presentation of the award, I jumped on it willingly.
For those of you unable to attend, my sentiments were:
“. . The criteria for this year’s selection was undoubtedly based upon Paul’s willingness to share his vast wealth of knowledge (unfortunately, - sometimes – whether you Want It, or Not;-) Paul is one of those precious individuals who make our strange, cyberBrotherhood a place where we can learn, share, entertain, laugh, whilst espousing our Common Interest in Ovation Guitars.
On a Personal Note; he has improved My Life imMENSEly just by being able t’call him a Very Dear Friend . .”

Congratulations, Buddy!!!

Having had the honor of meeting Mr. Templeman at the tour, I can honestly say that he is an absolute gas! ;)

The presentation was well done, Brad and Cliff. Congratulations, Paul!

Seperated at birth ... and appearently neither of them know how to use the fork.

After the award was presented, Susan (Paul's companion) asked me if I was surprised that he'd won it. "Surprised? I'm fooking devistated".

As a relative newbie here, I would like to add my good wishes and congratulations to Paul. He's taken time and trouble to advise me, been generous in terms of practical help, and even gave me some OFC picks the last time I called in on him! Oh, and let's not forget (Schroeder, this means you...) he's from the North of England. So he speaks proper. Definately the right place (and side of the Atlantic) in my book. Congratulations Paul!

Congratulations to PT! He's indeed a great resource to anybody's desire to learn and better oneself, in music and otherwise. Not to mention his unworldly sense of humour. But above all, he's a great musician - Paul: stop buying and selling and go create some music!

Congratulation Paul. It was a pleasure to see you and Susan at the tour. I knew that you were going to be named the member of the year and I had to keep quiet. TRBoy (Mike) found out that I knew and he was trying very hard to get the answer from me but was unsucessful. I told him and his wife Marybeth that I keep Cristmas presents a secret from my kids for up to nine months. The best is when my oldest son Michael has actually signed for the UPS shipment that had his and his brother's presents. They had no idea. So TRBoy I will definetly be ready for you next year.

Congrats, Paul. A well deserved honor. A true man among, well, fries, I guess. And I'll repeat what I said last year when Phil received it - it couldn't have been given to a fookin' better guy!

(Ok, well last year I may have said it a little differently...) Congrats.

Myself and Susan have just got back to Cliff's from a day out in Manhattan. Had a great time trawling around book, DVD and guitar stores, drinking and eating (ate softshell crab for the 3rd time in 2 days) Had a chance meeting on Union Square with a personal hero of mine and just spent the last coupla hours laughing our asses off at a comedy club.

The whole "Member Of The Year" thing was totally unexpected, you guys really worked me over good. (Kinda Like A Waring Blender - 10 points for the first person to spot the Zevon reference) As Al said, I was totally speechless and whatever tumbled out of my mouth may have been crap, but I assure you it was sincere and heartfelt crap and I meant every word.

As far as internet guitar forums go, this one is truly unique. It is populated by such a bunch of very diverse, raggedy-assed individuals that any sensible person would expect any actual meeting to be a train-wreck. 5 years of OFC tours and countless other relationships off the board have proved that not to be the case. I am proud and honoured to part of the OFC and I thank all of you sincerely for your kind words.

It was great to see the regulars again and to put faces to new names. (Mike, that song is killer!) See you all next year.

the only reason you got the award was to insure you come back next time to present it to the next person in line.

I was kind of worried to look at the pictures attached to this "Member of the Year" award, but when I found it was Templeman who won I realised I had it all wrong. ;)

I can't think of a more deserving individual for the award. Fooking brilliant.

Before Temp and Susan winged their way Home (yesterday), they spent all day and goodly part of the night cavorting around Manhattan while Jeanette and I returned to work.

I tried "waiting up" for them, but I had a 6 a.m. meeting in theCity myself the next morning (and I had already been running on Lack O'Sleep). Before I "crashed", I switched on Letterman, as I was half-expecting t'see Paul sitting-in with the band . . .
