Maybe we can put together a "group song" other than "The Weight" for a change.

Flying in, what airport do I use? Hartford? From your past experience, should I arrive Thursday evening, or Friday (late morning)? What about Sunday? Anything going on that day?

Thanks!

Come in by Thursday evening. There's a huge gathering/jam at the Homewood Suites in the lobby. Friday is all day at the factory and then dinner and a jam. Last year, there was stuff to do on Saturday. Sunday's a good travel day to get home.

But you really don't want to miss Thursday evening at the hotel.

Arghh. Frontier had a great deal... a week ago. It's gone up $80 since.

If I fly with them, I'll definitely be the first to arrive, unless someone's planning to get there Wednesday. The flight gets in at 5:30 am.

Woody? Want to play hide and seek at BDL again this year?

Especially if Moody and Witko sing "You've lost that lovin' feeling" again... There's a memory you could spend a lifetime regretting.
I'm still trying to determine how badly it will hurt sales if I include it on the DVD which, YES, I'm STILL working on. It's close. Very close.

Not on Fridays, unless you're legitimately ill. Some schools even require a doctor's note if a teacher calls in sick on a Friday. It prevents abuse of unauthorized 3 day weekends.

". . Is there a shuttle from l'aeroport to l'hotel? . ."

I've never had t'use it but I believe there is

Tho it's a BIT of a "hike" . . . if y'HAD to, y'could walk to the hotel from the airport . . . it's that close.

Worse comes to worse, call the FrontDesk and ask to speak to one of the GuitarF@ckwits milling about in the Lobby . . . somebody'll come get you.

The Hotel is 1.2 miles from the Airport. I believe there is a shuttle, definately taxi, and you could probably call over to the hotel and someone could run over and pick you up.

Cruster, there is a shuttle. runs every 20-30 minutes.
When you get to the exit doors of the airport, there's a bank of phones. One of them is for Homewood. Just pick it up and tell them you need the shuttle, they'll come and get you.

$281.00 from Knoxville to Hartford on Useless Air. Pretty good chance I can make it this year. Anyone else from eastern TN looking to go and want to car pool? Only 825 miles. 12-13 hrs and were there.

GGG you there? How about the rest of the Knox gang?

Not going to be able to make it this year.

For as big an area as Knoxville/Oak Ridge is is you would think flying would have some better options.

I'm planning to be there. I have a situation. My youngest son Chris's birthday is on Thursday May 17th. He is going to be 8 years old. I want to be in the hotel for the Thursday night jam. Since it is a school night I was going to start driving to the hotel after having a early dinner, presents , cake etc. That would mean I would not get to the hotel until close to 11pm.
Any suggestions?

What is the protocol with gear? I'm sure we all bring a guitar, but what about amps? Now might be the right time to go find something really small and portable. Of course, for about the same price, I could by a nice ATA case for the Trace or Acoustasonic Jr. Any recommendations based from those who've been in attendance before?

You won't need an amp. You don't even really need a guitar - there's plenty there and everyone is pretty cool just passing around their stuff. Last year I didn't want to go to the hastle of carrying stuff on the plane so I shipped FedEx straight to the hotel and it worked out perfectly. Dave

Understood. I'm thinking about taking the EA-68, thus my need for an amp.

Well, if Clifford were prez and I were vice-prez, you can be certain that nobody would want to assasinate him.....

Bradly Intl. That's it. Huge freakin' airport for such a small state. And the shuttle is real easy to take.

I've traveled with people 2 outta the 3 times that I've gone, and both times, the person I traveled with came home with the free guitar. I think I need to bring my wife. Maybe she'll let me play her free guitar.....

In answer to the question about the hotel shuttle, when you get off the plane go to the area wher you pick up your luggage there is a phone under the homwood suites sign, pick it up and tell them your flight just got in and you need a ride to the hotel. they'll come and get you. I'm hoping to be there this year if i can't afford to fly i'll try and hitch a ride with Trboy.

My wife just told me that she wants to come with me and bring the baby. I'm sure that she'll find find something to do while all the guitar stuff is going on. As she said "I would be sitting home alone anyway". I guess I can't argue with that.

Jeff,

Actually, I think she just needs a change of scenery. She's taken a few years off from work to be a stay at home mom, so she's getting a bit of cabin fever. It works out great for me because I hate being away from the baby (ahem...and my wife too). Fortunately, my daughter is 15 months old now, so we've gotten past the "infant' stage. She's already a music fan and loves to dance to just about any music (even her old man's crappy playing!).

Capt. and Phil,

I'm not 100% sure I can make it yet, but it looks pretty good. I'm willing to split the drive and expenses shoudl I end up going.

I'm ready to make hotel reservations as soon as Al make the announcements on availability. What type of schedule do you guys see? Leave Wednesday night and drive through, departing early Sunday morning for the return? What vehicles are avialable? (Guitar transport space?)

Sure doesn't sound like I'm on the fence yet does it? Sorry for the wavering but a project at work is going in finish lap countdown mode right about then so I have to figure out the logistics of taking a couple of days off.

Any contingency plan in the event a thousand people show up? I once planned a motorcycle trip, including dinner reservations, for a group of 30 and 125 showed up. The next year, we expected 125 and 325 showed up. We've capped it at 350 ever since.

Sounds great!
Maybe we can arrange for you to park right in front of the hotel lobby doors and leave the keys in it. That way, if our fingers get sore or we loose our voices there would be something for us to do.
Just a suggestion.

Blues, sounds like all 3 of us are at the exact level of non-commitment right now. I don't really have a vehicle big enough, especially if we pick up a fourth. It's a Jeep Grand Cherokee and I suppose it would work for three. Let's keep trying to make it and see how it shakes out.

Brad I think a vehicle is needed for the liquor run. I don't drink so I wouldn't know what all the requirements are.

The mountains along the route from Ski Sundown to the hotel caused alot of problems with my Garmin GPS. There were alot of dead spots and repeatedly "LOST SATELLITE RECEPTION". I felt realy bad about this when I realized that I had become the lead car for the OFC Hotel Caravan" :(

Well I came back from Arizona and while watching the Superbowl yesterday, mentioned the open house. Much interest until I mentioned the date.

Being the typical gu, it appears I overlooked that the Friday is my daughter's Junior Prom. Apparently I am totally insensitive for suggesting I just go to CT myself so reluctantly I will not be able to attend.

Oh well maybe next year, unless it conflicts with Senior Prom of course :-). If the NE guys have thoughts for the summer, please let me know ASAP as I hate missing out.

Good advice. I can't think of anything else to actually 'prepare' you for this.

Unless of course you're on medication, in which case you should bring extra and be ready to share.

Comfortable clothing!

Red eye flights and all. I was chided because in two events I was photographed wearing the same comfortable camo pants.

Also - something with a lot of pockets so that when you go through the Factory you can... well, you'll figure it out!

On May 30th. I will be married happily to the same woman for 25 years. So I told her we could skip the tour and go to the sea coast instead and do something she would like. She said lets go on the tour, man I cant beat that with a stick.

I just read the Announcement, and have a question for those who've gone before: can I get by without a rental car? Is transportation to the factory tour provided/available? If I don't need a rental I can save $$$.

Thanks!

Here's an even sadder example... it's cheaper to fly Delta from PDX via JFK to Boston than it is to fly the same first leg from PDX to JFK!

I bit the bullet and went with the United redeye, arriving in BDL at 9-something AM Thursday and departing at 5-something Saturday PM. Anybody got anything fun to do all day Thursday?

Prof, I won't need a ride from Boston afterall, thanks again for the offer!

Jason,
Flying is easy!
It's the Takeoff and the Landings that are critical!

Last Tour I took Red Eyes and had cool interesting people to sit by and talk to. Saw the Northern Lights and met a Dance Troop of butch young ladies from Canada.

Life is an adventure!

I suggest y'all do what I did last year.

Red Eye Wed. night arrive in CT Thur morning. Go to Homewood Suites and get room, greet play with the early crowd.

Thur night jam, greet, shower and bed at 2 a.m.

Fri B'fast, Tour, Jam, etc - sleep at 2 a.m.

Sat jam in Lobby - Al planned some cool stuff - jam - get taken to a party where Ed has a PHENOMENAL collection of O's, A's and H's!

Sunday a.m. take plane out of Dodge. Pick up souvenirs at Airport. Come home, take out the trash, etc.

BTW - The best sounding Adamas of the whole tour would surprise all of you. It's a roughed in Proto in CT.

No shame, Jason. Heck, I'd take the train if I had the time to spare. Definitely cheaper, much more relaxed than flying. I envy you.

ill leve wdc at 8am and get to ct at 2:30pm..should be a nice ride. it was when i went to boston on the train...jason

Yeah I considered taking Amtrak from NYC, but due to the airlines strange costing algorithms, it ended up cheaper to just fly all the way. Glad that worked out!

Let's just take a moment here to appease the "On-Topic Gods" and remind everyone that this in fact the FIFTH Annual OFC Tour/Jam, and that while (in the doldrums of Winter) it may seem a long way's off, it IS in fact rapidly approaching.

A lot of time, effort, and expen$e go into this, and making a good "showing" this year would really be cool!

Do WHATEVER y'gotta do with the SpousalUnit, Progeny, SaltMine, etc. to be in Attendance.

Don't let THIS Happen to YOU!! :

It rained a lot last year. The rained died for a short while near the end of the tour, and through the event that took place in the ski lodge. As the hotel lobby jam was taking place, however, it drizzled every now and then.

The day was very beautiful the day after, but then almost everyone already left shortly after breakfast. I spent the rest of the day at Mohegan Sun after the tour, before heading back to NY. The 30-minute drive from the hotel to casino was well worth it, considering that I listened through Matt's CD, which he autographed for me. :)

Ill bring a stack of doctor notes to hand out. Cant guarantee that they will be accepted when submitted for absences, tho.

Reservations made. I be bringing the usual. Camera, tripod, video camera (maybe), clothing. Oh yeah, guitar (probably the elite 1778t Red flame). last but not least the OFC Member Of The Year Trophy for the next lucky winner. I'll be coming on the 17th and actually staying this time till Sunday morning.

Other than a few OFC members who need to register with local law authorities before crossing state lines, and those transporting tropical fruit out of Arizona for costuming purposes, no.

There will be a Registration Page/Post (I would imagine) shortly.

You'll need to register (along with the names of those accompanying you) so that an accurate "headcount" can be established and correct name badges can be made.

Homewood has no bar (hence, Homewood has no HotelBarPrices). For the past few years, I've been hauling up the official OFC "bar" (Coleman stainless steel 100th Annv.model cooler).

Not sure if I'll have room for it this year, as in addition to boarding/transporting Limeys, I've taken on Californians as well (there goes the neighborhood).

Perhaps I'll have to pass the torch on to MasterWhitehead (Jeff, you comin' up thru Summit on the way to CT?? Yer welcome to t'come up the night before . . . and bring yer mute "baggage" . . .)

In either case, WE bring the bar, Homewood provides the space. All's we have to ensure is that when we leave the lobby area, we leave it as clean as how we found it ("Yer Mother Doesn't Work Here") and we dispose of the recyclables in the proper recepticles. There is a liquor store within walking distance and another within driving distance. BUT, they both close EARLY(8PM if memory serves). When it was FINALLY decided to do a BeerRun last year, one shop had closed, and Temp and I kept the other one open (at gunpoint).

If y'get there early and want to drink, I'd suggest going up the road to the package store and get a 6 (or two) to keep in your room fridge until the cooler arrives.

Being that the Lobby/CommonRoom isn't physically connected to any rooms, noise isn't an issue. We just have to be considerate of the staff working the FrontDesk/Office and other hotel guests utilizing the room. We developed a REALLY good relationship with the Homewood staff, and we don't wanna jeopardize it.

There's a thought, Jeff - allow your guest to kill a few bottles of vintage grapes, place him in the back seat and head off! It'll be hours before he realizes that you took the seats out!

Make sure you use plenty of bungees. You don't want to get ticketed for an 'unrestrained load'.

Whoever this guy is he sounds like he deserves it. What kind of person can piss off Tuppy, Cliffie, jeffie,Weasie, BunnieWabbit, Tempie, Mooooodie without even the power of speech to help him? Now that's what I call an offensive personality.
I look forward to meeting him.

Hmmm.... I may get to go to 2 OFC gatherings in the next few months:

OFC Convention

This is an industry trade show that I imagine is not nearly as much fun as what's coming in May.

Well I know I'm not the smartest guy...but the registration was a little confusing for me.

As I went to sign up my guest, the only info I could put in was his name and email. All the rest of the blanks had MY info in them.

When I went to the next screen to confirm my input, I didn't see my guest's name anywhere.

Is that the way it's supposed to be?

"As I went to sign up my guest, the only info I could put in was his name and email. All the rest of the blanks had MY info in them."

You can just type over the info pre-fills. It's done that way as usually the "guests" have the same info as the sponsor so it's easier to not have to type your own address and phone number a bunch of times. However, if your guest is a friend, then just change whats there.

All of the info you put in shows up on the subsequent pages on the bottom. In fact, if you go back it will show the information you already entered at the bottom.

I just made my room reservation. Take this as a reminder to make your own.
Desk Dude said all the rooms are being renovated and will be done by the time we get there. They looked fine by me last year. Then again over the three days I don't think I spent over an hour in that room with my eyes open.
It looks like Cruster will be tagging along on the drive from the mitten state.
I'm looking forward to seeing some old friends and it seems as though there will be an interesting crop of Newbies.

I'm having spinal surgery on April 11 and this trip is sort of the first time I'll be able to go anywhere. Maryanne will probably have to do most of the driving, and I'll be a little worse for wear after 8 hours in the car. Someone will probably have to help me up the stairs at the factory, too.

Anyway...it'll be a very nice "coming out".

Is anyone flying to the Open House, and bringing a guitar? I've never taken a guitar on a plane, and I'm not sure if I should. I'd like to take one 'O' along though. Advice?

TrustMe, there'll be PLENTY of guitars being passed around, to try out/play over the couse of two days . . .

If you even the LEAST bit "leery" about risking one of your guitars on a plane, . . don't bother.

I've decided I can't go; too soon after surgery.

I have a request: Last year I had my laptop in the hotel lobby and some of us were posting to this board as we went through the evening. Could someone take pics here and there and post them...almost real time sort-of. It would sure be a cool consolation for the thousands of us who can't attend.

I'll miss being there with you guys. Next year.

Thanks anyway, Cliff. You can go back to your darkened room now.

Dave, probably the easiest thing to do would be to upload youtube clips. I'm NOT bringing a digicam, but if someone is, I'll have the software to edit, convert, compress and upload.

How do these webcam sites work?

I watch this hot chick on McDougal St. leave her apartment every day to walk her dog. Surely sticking a cam on a laptop focused on the hotel lobby must be possible ???

Not sure. I'm looking into it.

I'm not sure what these two things have to do with each other. And I don't want to know.

Surely AZ has caught up with the rest of the free world and instituted some sort of peeping laws, no?

I could be wrong here but I'm thinking if we put Tim Chapman in a nice new foil bowler and have him stand outside the hotel with a big stainless steel bowl pointed up everybody this side of ESPN would probably be able to pull that it. Sure, where Tim has to insert the camera cable might be a little uncomfortable at first  but Tim'd take one for the team, I know he would!

The webcam is on the corner of Bleeker and McDougal in Greenwich Village. That's how I get my NY City weather report everyday. And watch her walk her dog.

wonder if she knows a peeper in AZ is gazing at her daily? wonder if peeper's wife knows how much he enjoys getting the NYC weather report?

Bleecker & McDougal was "GroundZero" for the NYC "FolkScene" in the late 50's/early 60's . . .

Yup, that's the place. Here's the cam

http://www.unowot.com/

It's mounted on the fire escape of an apartment on the south west corner, just down McDougal. I had to go check it out once and "wave" to my wife at a pre-determined time. Anyway, the chick walks the dog about 715 am eastern. She comes down Bleeker from the right (as seen on the cam) on the far side of the street, under the yellow awning of Verera Con Cuchina (btw a nice place to eat). Anyway, she hangs a left (her left) and walks right towards the cam as she crosses the street. Dog is a smallish white thing, maybe a poodle. The girl is attractive with semi-long brown hair, sometimes wears a Mary Tylor Moore baret. I was thinking that next time I'm in the city I would go there and hang out just to see her, but it kind of creeped me out to take my web perversions into the real world.

Dudes, I have told Waskel and Jason, not that it's any earthshattering revelation, but I ain't coming this year. We have too many other family money needs right now. But I'm already setting aside a little here and there to ensure I make next year.

On the upside: if any southeasters want to get together around the time of the tour, let's see if we can, maybe for a jam.

Have a ball, y'all.

I don't have a lot of experience in this, but I don't think a live webcast is going to work. We would either have to convince the hotel to forward a port on their firewall for people to be able to watch or give us a public address on their network. Either way it might have a profound impact on their overall bandwidth.
What we maybe could do, is shoot video and move it to an external server (maybe Dave's or DVD's) and feed it from there.
Or we could just post clips on youtube.

John let me contemplate this a bit, I think you're probably right that real time won't work and YouTube is the way to go. But I do have an IP camera (thankfully with no sound!) and am more than happy to leverege my server if we can find a way. Maybe a poor-man's VPN or something.

Room Availability Update:

The block of rooms that has been reserved for us has been SoldOut.

After considerable amount of time on the phone, I was able to obtain a room "outside of the block" at the guaranteed rate.

How long rooms will still be available is an unknown . . .

Don't wait till the LastMinute (like I did), and Reserve Now.

Is there any plans for a lobby Jam on Thursday night?? My last message did not get a response so I will assume most everyone is headed out Saturday and so no one will be there....... As it stands I can make it out Thursday night if anyone thinks they will be there and ready to play??
I wish I could make the Friday thing but This open house thing I have at work is always on the third Saturday of May, every year, and I am obligated to do this event for the public and we need Friday to set everything up and Saturday until 4:00 pm.
Just checking.

Well, it looks like life has once again throwna monkey wrench into my plans to make it this year. I lost my full-time job the beginning of April and have had to settle for a part-time job to try and keep the head above water. I had originally plannned to hitch a ride with someone going up that way.(Trboy was originally planning to go but turns out he can't)My car won't make the trip and i can't afford the room. so maybe next year life and the job situation will be better. Dang it!!! I could've won a guitar this time too!! have fun and take lots of pictures.

I like the banner. It pulls together the three themes very nicely (Ovation, the OFC and the reunion), and the wood background is a particularly nice touch. It that Koa?

Well, better late than never I suppose. I just forund this thread...yeah I know...I'VE BEEN BUSY OK?...seriously though, I am really looking forward to meeting everyone! My wife will be at home w/our two kids (our son is just 4 months)...She knows how much I wanted to come and needed a roadtrip (ok, so its a plane trip). She's a jewel! Anyway, I'm coming in to the airport from the Tri-Cities on Thursday and I'll find my way to the hotel (got the directions for the shuttle). 10 days and a wake-up left! :D :D :D

I BELIEVE that the Factory Tour starts at 8 a.m. on Friday.
Those planning on participating (and I HIGHLY reccomend that all "FirstTimers" DO) need to be READY and Waiting in the hotel lobby at 7 a.m.
(yeh, G'Luck with that . . .)

I just had an exchange with HerrKeller, who's informed me that when they do the "demo" of the LaserVibrometer at the Factory, they'll be doing it on my SlotHead.
I'm particularly psyched about this as, when we had the SlotHead Reunion a couple years ago, mine was the only one that didn't get an analysis/printout, as I "drove" mine up in lieu of shipping it up in advance.

Al;

I don't think I'm going to be able to drop the guitar off at the Factory early on Thursday as I'd hoped/planned.
If by chance I stay at the hotel FridayMorning, can you please take the guitar up to the Factory for me??
Kim said that Darren can set it up in the rig providing he gets it FirstThing . . .
LemmeKnow.

. . . and NO!!! . . . I'm NOT looking for any "Volunteers" to take it up for me!!! . . . besides Templeman, Al's probably the only one I'd "trust" . . . .

. . . hmmm, . . . now, that's a REAL scary thought! . . . .

Oh, come on, cliff! You can trust me to get it to the factory for you!

Getting it back to you after the tour, though... :p

Well, whenever we're together, the States of Enebriation are usually constant and equal . . . so, everything remains "relative".

This is all based on one of Einstein's lesser-known theorems:

Well, I'm really sad that i'm not going to be able to make it this year. If it wasn't forthe fact that i have to work. I'd be theer. According to trboy i even had a room waiting on me, All i had to do was find a way to get there.
Car is on last leg and taking it from day to day..
I'll try my best to make it next year. I'll miss seeing everyone. But have fun and take lots of pics.

Just trying to stay employed so SWMBO doesn't turn into SWMBF (feared)!

Based upon my buddy getting laid off yesterday, I had a conversation with my boss and let's just say I didn't hang up the phone feeling relieved or confident.
