Weather permitting I will be there. I plan on taking a light load so if there is anything you absolutely must see, tell me and I will bring it along.

The one thing, maybe the ONLY thing I miss from the east coast, and I say this from the bottom of my heart (or the pit of my stomach) are the trips with Alpep to the Columbus Ohio Guitar Show.
Among the worlds problems that we solved along that 6 hour ride (6 from the time he picked me up en route), some may not know that one could argue that at least one was also created that we are proud of, namely the OvationFanClub.com.
The show is a fun show, with lots of good folks who I will miss also. Seeing Paul and the gang with Reaganomics, the occasional appearance from Kim Keller, and rest of the Hamer gang and more, are all great memories.
But truly, spending 12 hours in a weekend, maybe only once a year, with one of your best friends, ignoring cell calls, listening to the GPS do it's "off route - recalculating", eating fine Denny's cuisine, and talking about everything, especially music and guitars, is an event that I looked forward to each winter and spring I could make it.

Yes boys and girls it is true. The OFC was concieved on one of those long trips out to Columbus.
We did solve all the world's problems and the problems of all gear companies also.
good times! |

Maybe they can talk about the guitar show now, without saying, "How about those Buckeyes?"

The guitar show, glad I checked in the OFC to see what's going on because I had no idea about the show. I might go, it's kind of a long drive.....at least 4 miles away.
Al, are you setting up a dealer table?? Anyone think there will be an Adamas 2080 there?

He needed me to "settle" a discussion that he and Sue were having regarding details of specific MontyPython skit.

Just got out of praise band managed to wrap my foot in the cord and fling my guitar across the stage during communion. It was my best Pete Townsend imitation

Location: Wooster, Ohio | I did find him, but I think it was more like Chev Guevara who spent too much time at McDonalds. Huge crowd, really hard to move. Fun to see what old Gibsons are worth. Got to get my high school j-45 on ebay. It is a pick of crap but these guys seem to get excited about them. Church guitar ok, just the b string out of tune.

Location: NJ | I walk into the guitar show and an old friend greets me with "Al I have something you need to see" Well that was not the first time a gentleman approached me in that manner at a guitar show so I figured he wanted me to ID a guitar. Since I am sorta known in the vintage guitar world, often times people try to stump me with strange and wierd instruments. I have not seen them all but have knowledge about most.
so about a 1/2 hour later he opens a case and brings over to me what I absolutely recognize as a prototype adamas. "you need this" he said. It has to go to someone that appreciates the history.
There was a tag hanging off the guitar. This is what it said.
I assume this is in Charlie's hand to Bill. I hope Cwk will confirm this. Well I/we struck a deal and the guitar went home with me.
Pics when I get a chance. It is 8 hours from bellmawr to columbus. I got home at 2 am unloaded the truck answered e mail and put on the tv at 7 am my carpentars arrived totally unexpectedly in the rain to finish siding. I feel like i was run over by my truck not driving it. |

Location: NJ | you guys are brutal.
I am working on 3 hours sleep....
my camera broke so I sent it back to nikon, I had to find my other digital got that, the batteries will not hold a charge so I had to recharge them
and now it is dark so I took a couple of pics with the flash.
This is an early engineering prototype. Pre epaulet design large access hole in the back for tweaking the braces. The neck has one of the original designs for the adamas with the extended fingerboard.
not sure if you want to see more pics if so I can try to take them tomorrow when hopefully we will see some sun.
I was really excited to get this guitar. it is one of the missing links between the guitars beginnings and what finally made it in production.
this guitar is similar to the one Sam was selling or sold a while back.
when I take a pic of the back you will see it has a hand laid fiberglass bowl.
the strings on it look original I did not try to tune them up. Not sure if I should leave it or change them and try the thing out.
hope you enjoyed this find as much as I did.
I assume that the tag is genuine. |

As long as you're wrecking the value by changing the strings, though, you could slap a 'mustache rides' sticker on there. Those sound holes are a riot. ;) |

It'd be interesting to where it fits in the evolutionary chain (and how it differs from Sam's). |

D'ya think they still have that template and would do a custom order? |

Location: Wooster, Ohio | I know that some of you may take this the wrong way but I saw this on ebay and it reminds me of the early proto type Al had found in Columbus. You have to love the humble beginnings of innovation, whereever you find it. I just admire people that have a vision and make it happen.
