Location: Isle of Man, UK | I recall an interview with Dhani Harrison (George's son) who said that George used to carry a Uke everywhere, as it was fun to play and everyone enjoyed having a quick listen. In later years, he always carried two. Just so that someone else could join in.
And who knows that "Something" was written on a Uke?
There's a new future coming, and it's tiny-guitar shaped!

| Go Crazy man! Keep one string tuned a half note high! Who'd know anyway?
We had to load some rare old Battle Flags into our State Capitol for a display we were setting up a couple of months ago.
The guy who was supposed to be "In Charge" brought some guy from the office with him to sit on the back of the truck (parked in front of the Capitol building on the sidewalk) what do you think he brought with him to help pass the time?
Yep.
Apparently he was getting ready for the 21st century musical revolution. He had a little "how too" book and his index fingernail and all I can say is he was not singing, at least when we would come out of the door. All I could think of was the Animal House scene with John Belushi, and me grabbing that freekin cheese box and smashing it on the back of the truck. I told the guy I was carrying a huge, super heavy, framed, flag up the stone stairs with what I was thinking and he got laughing so hard we almost lost a scared battle flag right there.
We just got ourseves into a laughing fit and could not get out of it. Jesus, those little things are the funiest little instruments.
I was afraid to leave that guy on the back of the truck in downtown Albany. One look at this guy and I could imagine him with that little Uke sticking out of his posterior nether regions and the flags heading down the street!
Grown men need to be beaten, hard! at least once in their lives for using one!

Location: Spain | Can somebody name a few good ukelele songs? In Spain you have more chances of seing a flying camel than an ukelele, so I'm not sure how an uke sounds like.
Was it an ukelele the instrument opening REM's Loosing my religion? |

I actually enjoy playing songs on uke that you would not normally associate with such an instrument. Kashmir, Comfortably Numb, Fire & Rain, Paler Shade Of White, etc. stuff like that. Any Beatle song, Herman's Hermits, REM, Springsteen, Harry Chapin, etc. go nicely on ukulele.
Slipkid and I were going to do Pink Floyd's "Brain Damage" on ukuleles at last years OFC Tour. Until he chickened out and claimed he'd rather wear a coconut bra.

Ukulele is a very different sound as it's nylon string, and there's only four strings.
I'm trying to think of a Ukulele in mainstream music can I can't - sure that the clips people have dug up will give you a clue, though!
Today, I will be trying to get a Uke arrangement of Badlands out of my head. Yeah, thanks guys. ;-)

here's Braddah Iz's version as played on the ukulele. pay no attention to the comments at the bottom. the contributor is confused! unless he was trying to make his guitar sound like an ukulele by placing a capo on the fifth fret. |
