Do we know a good Ovation tech in South Jersey/Philly? I know Al has a place, but I don't know if he does setup work and I know there's a few Jersey guys here. My new (to me, it's an '85) CL has a neck I can't adjust, and the action is very high. The neck isn't straight by any stretch, and there is no moving that truss rod; it's as out of moves as the Red Sox ;)
I bring my electrics to Norio Imai in Manhattan, but he's more of an electric guy and I'd rather go with a guy who knows Ovations. If the neck is toast I want to know up front right away.
I guess it doesn't hurt to ask as well: if I need to send this back to the Mothership for a new neck, how much is that going to set me back? It's a gorgeous neck, with a to die for little V on it (not to mention the silly inlays!), but the action is worse that a 2 dollar plastic guitar.

thanks guys

I would look at it for you but unfortunately I am in the middle of a crazy construction conundrum and have less and less time as the days get shorter.

from what you described you may neeed a neck reset I know of no one i could send you to that even would do an O justice or treat you right in the area.

Al, I appreciate you're giving me a heads up, I really do. Next time I'll save my pennies and just buy from you in the first place and save the heartache and headache. But if you don't know anyone around the area, should I just start looking in Manhattan? Should I look to the factory?

Factory does an awesome job with repairs for a very reasonable price. For a neck reset, I would definately send it to them. It will come back like a new guitar!

I'll get in touch with the factory then. Like I said, the neck really is a beautiful thing (like I have to tell you!), but it isn't straight. It bends markedly right where it joins the body at the 14th fret, and the trussrod won't budge. It may never have been moved in 20 years. I put a set of electric 9's on it, and the action is still easily 1/4 inch at the 12th fret. My only worry is that the reset won't fix the issue. I guess we'll see, though.
