And it looks sweet at first glance. Had to not be greedy to bid or BIN. but since the other 1537 I bought has a bowl/binding crack the seller'forgot' to mention (as well as repair done with superglue on top and on bowl crack, bridge that needs to be repaired, headstock damage loose electronics, case that was useless, and worn frets etc...)I have learned my lesson. well sort of. hope this one finds a good home...sunburst is sweet peace mike |

From now on, I will buy only from someone with over 100 feedback and the rating to back it up. If not, I will pass. Lived without the item before and can live without it another day.
This one does look good tho....100% feedback with over 1200 responses should make you feel warm and fuzzy. |

Is this (besides the FD-14) the Ovation to own?
Do these have the Optima? I noticed the dual jacks on the back. |

It was the first year's production of the Elites -- 2 knobber Adamas preamp, stereo output, wood binding around the body, walnut fingerboard, etc. And yeah, it's considered one of the very best wood topped Ovations ever built.
I was one of, if not the first, people on the board to own a 1537 (not counting Bill who literally owns the first, and maybe one or two people at Ovation), buying it in 1993. A number of people here have bought them since and been very very happy with them. They are great guitars. |

Somebodies gonna grab this one. |

I was thinking you had a 1537. Maybe I was thinking of Jeff (Cardinalflyer) in Hermiston. I also recall seeing the 1537 in the archives, maybe as recently as last week, when I got mine.
As far as whether it's the guitar to have, the answer is yes. It is everything people on this board have been saying it is. As the ebay guy says, it is a 10 in all categories. The only criticism I have seen is the walnut fretboard. Seems a little soft and shows some wear, but I don't know if it's any worse than rosewood. It plays as easily and sounds as good as anything I have ever played, but I'm not an expert. I just know I love it. I am not sure that I agree with Stephen, though. It hasn't made me want to sell my others. I am noticing that they aren't getting as much playing time, though. |

I'm just afraid my wife is going to start thinking I'm addicted. And I don't know that she wouldn't be right.
It's still tempting. |

Location: Parrish, FL | Well this is killing me. I saw this auction Friday morning at about 5 am, got up from the computer, woke my wife to tell her I was buying a guitar and left the room. (Shows how smart I am, to wake a sleeping women in such a manner)
Went back to the computer, hit the BIN and was confronted with 'Immediate Payment' needed to complete the transaction. No problem (I thought), continued on, $HIT, I'm short by $15.00 to make it happen.
Went through the PPal BS$hit to add account info to extend the balance. $hit , it's going to be up to 3 days before it can happen. Email the seller begging that he drop the immediate payment requirement, hopeing that no one else will jump in.
Check eBay and my email all day long, no news, no bids. Go to meeting that goes over by an hour. Get back , YES!, email saying that requirement dropped. On over to eBay,........... StandingO pulled the trigger 28 minutes ago and the BIN is no longer an option. :(
It has been a long weekend. The plan was to buy this one and see if I liked it better than the one I have, then sell one of the two. I've played the one I have a lot this weekend trying to get my mind straight. I LOVE my guitar. The only thing that could make it 'better' is the subjective finish difference. The burst is literally screaming at me.
AAAHHHHHH! (that's me, not the guitar). I've decided to sit this one out unless it is a non-OFC bidder. I doubt that, not many outside this bunch would throw this kind of money at this guitar. We seem to be have the inside track on how good this guitar is. Maybe I'll have a shot at another sometime in the future. If Dave wins, maybe one of the two he will then have. Who knows.
I'm going to go play some more now to drown out the sound of me talking to myself.

You were willing to pop for the BIN which is still a good price. I would go ahead and enter the bid and see where it goes.
If Dave really wanted it, he would have hit the BIN himself. Don't let an outsider scarf it up at the last minute!!!!! |

I didn't dom the BIN because I figure if someone really wanted it and was was willing to pay big money, then they should have that chance. Dave |

Location: Phoenix AZ | OK. Here's the lowdown. The 1537 arrived yesterday from UPS and the box was in pretty bad shape. One entire corner was crushed and right in the middle (almost dead on through a "Fragile" sticker) the thing looked like it had been skewered by a fork lift or something. I expected the worst. None of this was the fault of the seller, by the way. Reminded me why I always use FedEx (plus their trucks are better looking). Anyway, the seller did a great job of packing the guitar and deep within it's cacoon of foam and bubble wrap all was safe. The case did it's job, big time.
The guitar is beautiful and a perfect match for my 1st one. Each has a little nick here and a smudge there, but basically as nice of a 23 year old guitar that you'll find. They both play great and I would imagine sound identical. But they have very different strings right now, so I have to restring. The new one is fine, it's actually my old one that I didn't realize the strings were so dead. I'll restring and compare tonight.
As much as I'd LIKE to, keeping both is not an option. But DAMN, they sure look nice sitting side by side don't they ???
Dave

Interesting, looking at the pic, seeing the difference in the burst...... |

Location: Phoenix AZ | Paul, I got too busy last night to change strings. We have company staying over for 2 days starting tomorrow and the spare bathroom hadn't been cleaned in quite some time. You know the deal - "Honey, are you busy ?"
On the 1537's the burst is only different in that one has a larger black outer zone. The inner amber part is amazingly identical. I expected more of a difference, but there's not. Actually the photo makes the guitars look more different than they really are. Biggest difference is the burst on the back of the neck. One is more black and the other is more amber. Forget which is which. The guitars are so identical in looks and condition that you'd never be able to tell them apart. Except that one is 2 lbs lighter than the other. In the photo above, the older one is on the right.
I'm sure when the company arrives tomorrow (2 female friends of my wife), that I'll have plenty of private time locked in the music room. Wanna come and visit?
