I am looking for a acoustic/electric Ovation and I just wanted to hear if you have some experience to by them overseas. Are there customs duties to EU? Are there safe flights? And so on. I recently read some different opinions how much does it cost. Why can the cost vary?
Btw I repaired my solid body Vipers pick-up wiring and now it sounds great.

Hi,

I bought 4 guitars from USA the last 2 years.
They all arrived in good condition. No problem.
Shipping to France from USA is between 75 and 100 US$. It depends on weight.
You must pay the customs fees of your country. In france these fees are near 25%!!
Sometime, you can be lucky and you don't have to pay!! Why??? I don't know!! The taxmen are probably sleeping.... ;)

Hi,

in Germany there are taxes (VAT = 16 %) and customs fees (3-4%); there customs fees from electric, electric/acoustics and acoustic guitars differ ...

the main influence has the description outside the parcel... the guitar I received last year was declared with 50 US$ value (OHSC included :D ).... as the shipping insurance was on the sellers side, it was not much risk for me...

but anyway... most times it is much cheaper to buy (guitars made in U.S.) overseas and pay shipping and all the fees than to buy in a German shop (probably the same in all EU-states)... on the other hand... there could be a problem if you need the guarantee... thats your risk...

If the seller does a good packaging job there shouldn't be a problem with the flight...
