hey trboy,

Hey , sorry I just returned from east coast. whirlwind trip, ice storm in nebraska knocking cars/trucks off road right in front of me.
1537 was worth trip by itself. it is gorgeous to look at (i think). it does have a resonous projected tone with good string clarity. Well except for the high E string. It touches the end of the fretboard. It touches the fretboard end because someone decided to glue down the floating fretboard. Of course this really only caused the fretboard to be pushed up where it lays over the top.
I am happy to own the guitar, it has a dropdead gorgeous aged top but I will look into having factory repair/replace fretboard. I took some pics, hope to develope and post here at OFC.
As for meeting, in middle or end of May I will be back in Connecticut for summer. I would love to meet if you are still east coast bound. email me at cookmj@boulder.net whenever. I am a poor player, but always love to learn new guitar stuff. keep in touch, peace mike

check your email, breaking the glue bond should be easy...if it is CyA, no problem - use the CyA solvent. will not affect the Ovation finish (catalyzed polyester.)

Hey Mike,

Congrats on a great catch!

Welcome to the elite 1537 club. Glad it turned out as nice as you had hoped. You need to find the old thread that listed the members and add you name to the proper slot :D

stephen,
thanks, the sound isssss good on the 1537. the top wood pattern is wild. very dark aged spruce with its own flamed figures happening. I believe Sam said during 1980's, ovation tried a spruce from germany that aged more darkly, and maybe this is one. I am excited to check out pics I took and see if they come out.

Tony, I emailed back, but for public record, any idea once glue is removed on how to reshape fretboard warping?
As a related topic (well maybe), I have a 1656 legend-12 that must have sat in its case for a long time. The only spot where the inside of the brown case does not totally touch the top of the guitar (except under strings)is right underneath bridge (you know south of bridge, with north end being neck, not really under the bridge). well, in this spot (which is about a 4 inch half circle), over time the top has sort of arched up. It feels round to the touch, but is not very visible and has caused no cracking. When I looked to see how the case closed on guitar, I noticed that the case has a space between it's cushioning and top of guitar, exactly where arching is happening. Do you think this is caused by wood expanding to humidity changes over time? I don't beleive this is tension pull from bridge, but I wonder if it is repairable? Maybe just time with correct humidity will bring it down, thanks peace mike

Mike,

The fretboard should float back up with no additional work...as to whatever glue was used, it can be released easily.

Hello everyone,
My wife and I "hooked-up" with Woz for lunch Monday and had a great (but to short) visit....checked out one of his "new" toys, his "Book" Elite which sounded fantastic!! Then we set out for Newport, RI. for a little site-seeing.....THANKS WOZ!!! I took some beautiful pics of the sunset that I'll try and post when I return to my home turf this weekend!

fugot, sorry we missed getting together....maybe in June? I'd had planned to make it down to Daddy's junky music in Warwick and try and talk the guys there into telling you when you got there to pick-up your 1537 that it had already been sold to some guy from South Carolina :D ....but I didn't make it before you got there :( Glad you're enjoying it.
