At the risk of sounding naive, is there a real benefit to having a stereo output for your guitar (I've seen them listed a few times out on the bay). How does this work? What controls do you have? Under what circumstances would you find this to be an indispensible tool.

With the consumption of sufficient homebrew ale I sometimes find there are twice as many guitsrs as I started out with. But they still sound like one guitar, just played half as well.

Sterio, a novelty designed by an engineer because he could, however the world was not waiting for his great new invention.

Yeah, I successfully cleaned out the electronics on my '82, and it appears to function flawlessly. Like I stated elsewhere, its a moot point- with a small, one-channel, practice amp.
Since Fame & Fortune has not been breaking down my door, I except to remain ignorant of the possibiities of this type of channeling experience.

I bought a "y" chord and tried it on my 1613. Nothing to write home about. Plus, I have enough stuff to lug around w/o another 60 lbs of amp.

Well, I'm still having fun with mine. It works best when layering a number of guitars into a mix and doing mostly strumming. It's no good for playing lead, and only mildly interesting when fingerpicking. There are some cool things I've learned to do ... but "novelty" pretty much sums it up and I'll probably tire of it soon enough. I should mention that I am plugging into a board, panning hard right and hard left, and monitoring through headphones. Doing the two amp thing was a waste of time imho.

I think those are the conditions that show it best. It does sound nice, but it's like that chorus stomp box, after you've used it on everything for 6 months it's tired.

So, Bill, what's that engineer up to these days? The on-board tuner was a pretty good idea, I suppose.

I'm thinking maybe a bottle opener on the upper-bottom of the bowl!

How about one of those universal remotes to turn down the lead guitarist volume!

Y'know, Emdubya, you may be onto sumpin'. Wouldn't be that hard to incorporate a bottle opener under the jack nut on the bowl! 3/8" hole through the ol' churchkey- we be sudsin'! As for the remote on the leadman's juice- that'd get political.

How much trouble would it be to just build a color laptop with a reverse image into the top so I could set in front of a mirror and post on here while jamming along. We could then use our Yahoo messenger vocal feature to jam with each other and if we had a web cam see what chords we were all playing.

Then we could hear the banjo players and dubya's resophonics, our living rooms would resemble a smoky barroom and our wives would kick us out into the street with all our instruments. This innovation seems to be loaded with flaws. A mauve shirt or a person who jams in the bathroom would freak us out.

Muddy Lemon Davis Bailey (I'll never do like shotgun Willie and set around jamming in my underwear) ;)

That engineer is dead.
The tuner in the bowl was the marketing vp guy. I thought that was the stupidest idea! Guess I missed that one big time.

"emdubya"???

That's OK Bill. That's why we work in packs, er, Teams. If enough people are to blame it's nobody's fault!

I can remember this old guy trying to tell me something when I had just turned 18 - It was the first year they had those new fangled tax deffered IRA accounts. Some crap about a little sacrifice now and compounding interest! I was having way too much fun with my money to put it in a stinking bank!

Well Bill, (As I look at that I find myself oddly drawn to replace Well with Wild)

I'm pretty sure I can take first prize in the missed market category. Once upon a time, I was a systems programmer working with UNIX. One afternoon a co-worker brings in this box of stuff and tells me it's a 'Personal Computer.' I told him (more than once) Nobody needs one, it will never have enough power to do meaningful work and it's too expensive for the average person to ever buy. Three strikes and he's caught looking. I didn't return to writing desktop software until the late eighties. I've learned not to believe predictions much. Much more important to stay sensitive to what reality is trying to show (beat into) me.

Bailey - the laptop in the mirror thingie seems like an awful lot of trouble just to keep the banjo player in another room (house?, state?). As a reformed banjo player, I think it's important to be mindful of others that are just an O away from redemption ;)

There you go again, you just missed the century's second greatest idea. The on-line guitar jam with web cam video and Windows Messenger audio, the jerky picture and staccato sound will be as good as those great silent films that led to "talkies", the 3 bar time lag will lead some interesting ryhtyms. Sounds like it might need some work, but the banjo will sound natural.

Bailey :D
