Joined: December 2004 Posts: 21 Location: Scotland | Hi folks, I posted a recent message regarding restoring a 1980,s ballideer, well I have decided to do it my self.... ;-) Indeed the soundboard had a bevel (slight) I thought it was cracked but it looks ok, however I did rub some PVA into the bevel under the board. Now that the PVA has dried and I am working on the finish to the soundboard everything looks great... ;-) (will find out when the strings are at a tension).. However I still need to find machine heads, "schaller" someone mentioned in the post, my question is ... what kind do I look for ... 3/3 ? 6 in line ? or 6/6 ... I want to purchase the gold finish ones, also are they "mini machine heads" ? has anyone a link to buy those things...my guitar is a six string Custom Ballideer.. Many thanks Stephan Scotland

Access the Ovation website for a possible picture. Someone around this joint probably has a close-up image, too. I love it when folks resurrect their critters! Good luck, go slow, and get it right.

I still count the paper towels in the kitchen to avoid wasteful misuse and play my guitar strings way beyond the normal usefulness. I do not play the bagpipe or eat haggis, but I revere the Scottish troops who fought and died so well in Korea. The Brits have depended upon them for centuries. Welcome (what is really under those kilts??) I don't really want to know but I just had to ask. Bailey

Now, if you're not going to get your lines right, you're not going to last long as straight man. Uh, wait. That wasn't a straight line. Really, I mean, I dind't mean 'straight man' like *that*. Honest. Although, if I were trying to deliver a straight line, that would've been a good one. Now, go back to counting paper towels. Say, you know paper towels cost less than napkins on a per use basis, right? Oh, and those Scotsmen are tough...the Black Watch being a case in point (and no, not the Royal Highland Regiment of Canada...the *real* Black Watch, dammit!). Welcome Stephan1972! Post some pics of your handiwork!

You want the 3/3 regular size. Pay attention to how the screw tabs are placed. Schaller changed these over the years. You can see the hole pattern on your guitar, make sure the new keys match it.
