I've been looking for a deep or mid bowl custom legend lately and have noticed that you tend to find 1869's as the strong majority. I was wondering why there would be so many more of those than other models. Are these ones more undesirable? Also, since I haven't had the chance to play either, which guitar do the prefer the acoustic sound of, the 1719-30CM or the 1769-ADII?

I have had both the 30th CL and the 2004 DiMeola -as an acoustic, I vote for the 30th CL.

As to the 1869 , it is a cutaway which is desireable to some. However, as the 1869 is a shallow bowl, it is a nice acoustic but not as good as the 1669 deep bowl cutaway. As to the 1868, 1669, or 1619 - like the 1619 noncutaway over 1869 or 1769. Again, some may want a cutaway. Should say that I have the 1619, 1669, and 1869.

As to plugged in, now it depends on the pre-amp you want which may be why you want the 1869 w/OP-50.

He sure does and so do many others here. Despite owning three Ovations and having been reading this board for 15 months, I still don't speak that language.

Tony could be on Ovation Jeopardy! But if they threw in a twist like asking his phone number or SSN he might be in trouble.

Tony - Have you ever seen a 1234-5 ??? I have!

It is a bear to find a mid depth custom legend. 2 different GC's had a brand new old stock 2003 1869's for about $850. They were both black.

Plugged in both were very bright sounding guitars and they were soft and thin sounding unplugged.

The brightness does sound closer to an acoustic but my S771 and ones I tried in the store had more bass amplified hence more versatile.

I even bought a mid depth from Elderly, totally stunning guitar, looked and felt great but I couldn't eq out the brightness...sent it back.

My gut tells me that the newer preamp ones would sound better but I don't see any of them in stores.

I desperately wanted that Custom Legend though. Desperate. It kills me.

The Guitar Center in Lake Forest CA has a deep bowl, used, full body Custom Legend with spectacular wood and an OP24 (late 80's) for sale for about $900.

Thundserhead w/ Vibrato in BLACK. As far as I know only 2-3 were made in black color and none of those reside at my house.
