With the models from the '70s and '80's was the main difference the neck construction?

How does the sound of a I compare to a II?

My understanding is that Adamas I had the following differences wrt Adamas II:
- neck and headstock
- bracing hand selected and matched
- tops hand selected and measured for frequency
- labels hand signed
- of course price and oh-la-la effect

Sonically I think you would be hard pressed to hear a difference. The difference is there, but slight and burried within all the other factors. The difference of a few weeks in age of strings far outweighs anything having to do with the differences between the guitars, in my opinion. That being said, the Adamas I is the "real" Adamas and certainly the one that most of us lust over.

I honestly think "lust after" is just way too strong a term regarding the way people here think about the Adamas I. Perhaps a better way would be to say "Get a hardon over" would be better?

Seriously, I never wanted an Adamas I until Ovation totally redesigned the Adamas line. Now, I have a tough time considering the SMT, CVT, etc, Adamii.
