I recently sold a guitar to Sergio Lara, a member of the OFC, Grammy nominee, master guitarist, and genuine nice guy.

First, he is a gentleman and it is a privilege to do business with him.

Second, I received a copy of his latest CD and feel it appropriate to highly recommend it. I have been listening to it while working on guitars in my shop and not only find it to be splendid background music for working but also inspirational. There are some songs that so move me that I just have to pick up a guitar and play along. I am not in his league, but he makes me want to be a better player and that says a lot.

This project has a very contagiously positive feel to it, and is great for the car, dinner music, romance, .... you name it.

I know some others have lauded it on this board, but this is my turn. You can not only find the CD on Amazon.com, but can also find reviews by a couple of our own OFC clan.

This would be a good Christmas present for a music lover.

You received a copy?? He sent you one?? I had to BUY one for myself!!

Money well spent I might add. His music is wonderful and I'll be searching out his older cd's as well.

As to his being a nice guy... ah, well I guess so. He and I get along very well together, so he can't be that nice.

Yes, he sent me one... The truth is that I gave him a good deal on a Country Artist, and am about to do so again on another one so he graciously sent me a copy.

But I would buy this CD. It's good stuff. I have a bunch of Acoustic Alchemy recordings, and a couple by Jesse Cook (new age flamenco). I'd rank Sergio right up there with them, and I enjoy some of the ethnic flavors on the project. I also used to listen to a lot of David Grisman, and there is one song that reminds me of the 'jazzgrass' days. No surprise that Serge is a fan of Tony Rice.

his earlier works, as Lara and Reyes (Sergio Lara and Joe Reyes), are also great.

Paul, I know he's been looking for an Adamas I cutaway...have you been holding out on us?

For the Adamas 1, I would receive the entire catalog of his works....

I suspect YOU are more 'the man' for one of those.

I listened to some samples from that album and that and any other albums of his is definately on my want list. Thanks for pointing it out in plenty of time for Xmas. Great music, very nice mix of tradition and modern improvements on the style, I heard echoes of the great trios, Los Panchos, Los Diamentes, etc. and folk influences of the great pickers from the 70's and 80's.

I've got to relay a funny story about Serge and how he and I got off on the wrong foot - although we're great friends now. I think it was his very first post here on OFC and he asked something about nylon players and Ovation classical guitars. I posted a smart-ass reply basically saying that no respectable nylon playing professional would be caught dead using an Ovation. Ooops, well he sort of "corrected" me and sent me his CD to prove his point. I love the taste of CROW. I quickly earned a great respect for Serge the musician and Serge the man. Sometimes the most awkward starts lead to the most satisfying results. Dave

Was that crow served with salsa? The freshly cut sort and not the stuff in a jar!

I remember that post, Dave. I am glad that I am not the only one that types too late at night or hits the Add Reply button before I really think about it!

It's also nice to see how the majority of OFC'ers can "Get over it" and learn to fully appreciate each other.

I will look for his music! We'll see if it makes to others stockings or ifit ends up in my CD player instead!

Yes, the crow was served with fresh salsa (and a cold Corona). Actually, with all due respect to my amigos south of the border, there is some DAMN good salsa right here in AZ. A local shop sells some fresh stuff that is out of this world. I don't even use chips, just eat it with a spoon right out of the tupperware they sell it in. Good stuff. Serge's music is also good stuff. You should definately pick it up and give it a listen.

Reason for the reference was during a trip taken to Pheonix AZ to watch a bunch of overpriced cars go around in circles, I enjoyed daily dinner buffets at our hotel. Amonst the offerings were salsa and various dishes made with fresh ingredients and they were wonderful!

Up here what passes for "Mexican" food is a poor, cheese drenched version. I gotta get back there again!

Dropped the hint to my wife today, had her check out the CD on Amazon, she liked the music and is already planning the shopping for best value. She is an expert on buying CDs on the net, she just bought four for herself for her birthday, the 23d, we talked the kids into giving her an Amazon gift certificate and I kicked in the difference. She can get more CDs for less money than anyone I know and two arrived in the mail today, so she hasn't been cheated yet.

Looking forward to playing that CD shortly, and when I get it I will post a review like Moody did and Steve Chapman.

Another place to get CD's is half.com, which is related to ebay. I've had very good luck getting CD's at good prices, amoung them, of course, Serge's new one. Wish list a price you want to pay, and wait. Usually used, but in good condition. Never had a problem. Years ago, I got a flamenco compilation cd, that had a song by a group called Lara and Reyes! It was only last weekend that I made the connection. Doh!
