Interesting guitar, Koa was a Hawaiin fad some years ago, pretty wood, but not the best acoustically maybe Martin could make it sound good.

The Koa instrument that I should have bought in the 70's was a custom Dobro lap steel built by John Dopyro for a customer that renigged on picking it up that he had in his Escondido shop for around $250, it had a resonator and a pickup and was shaped like a Hawaiin lap guitar and sounded great acoustically and plugged in. He begged me to buy it as I still had some of my ability to play steel that I learned when I was playing with my brother at age 15 or 16. I was too poor to afford it and have regretted it ever since.

always something that if we had a couple of extra dollars...like the new 1969 XKE in Pensacola...

as to the KOA, new in 1980; compared with the Martin spruce, it just called to me...can't ask for more.

the parlor is a Celeb...good, can't compare to the '97 Collector's. Uke and parlor are my wife's so they don't count against mine ;) :p ;)

Martin's D-50 limited edition with flamed koa back and sides lists for $45,000. At that price, it damn well better sound good!

I had a dreadnot Martin Koa, D42K I think it was. Nice but it just didn't have it. Like driving a 6 cylinder Mercedes. I have always found that the smaller bodies work better with Koa or other woods. I've got a '31 O-18H Martin all koa and it sounds really good, a friend had a '27 OO-28K, good as well. Collings makes a C-10 and those in Koa are really responsive.
The picture is wonderful by the way.

Nice. Don't the sharp edges on the back of the Martin cut into you, though?

Just take some 80 grit to the edge, fix it right up.
