Did anyone notice that on John Lennon's newest CD release, Acoustic he is playing an Ovation? I never knew John played these guitars..How cool! John is perhaps one of the biggest reasons why I took up the instrument..I had been a Beatles and John Lennon fan for as long as I can remember! "Acoustic" is a nice collection of songs but if you have the Lennon Anthology box set you have most of the songs anyway..I just thought it was cool that John was playing an Ovation..

That photo and some more of John With His Ovation have been discussed here on a couple of previous threads. If you use the search Mode and enter John Lennon you may just find the previous ones.
It was great to know that john was playing an Ovation during some of his last sessions.
I believe it was determined to have been an Ovation Legend LTD.

I seem to recall reading somewhere (perhaps it was even HERE) that Lennon had brought an Ovation down to Bermuda when he was working some of the stuff out for the last album . . .

I think he had a legend and a nylon as well. Maybe a few more? I know he bought them all retail.

I think yoko lent a pile of stuff to the hall then took it back and auctioned it. not sure but I think so.

just how much money does one person need?

Bill, Manny's has a photo on the wall (amongst thousands) of Lennon buying the Legend there. I doubt if he paid anything for it, but at least it came from a retail store. As far as Yoko, she gets no where near enough credit. For what - I don't know. Maybe she was the first to imitate a womans child labor screams on vinyl. But them again who among us has not spent some quality time with the "two virgins" album cover ???

That cover made me go out and buy my first guitar pedal . . . . a "Big Muff".

Now, I'm not going to speculate on Yoko's motivation and expectations for this latest project, but it is interesting. She is dedicating the CD to "future guitarists". The lyrics have chording references, with diagrams on the back pages. The sound quality is quite varied. I would say the overall effect is informal, and somewhat random. I think you can pretty easily determine which cuts have the "O" on them.

If any of you own the Lennon Anthology Box Set you have most of the songs..Actually I was kind of disappointed when I picked up a copy..I think Yoko should have put some unheard tracks on the CD instead of recycling the old stuff..I understand there is quite a bit of material Lennon recorded that still has not been heard...

Yoko has always been disappointing... Heck, look at the Two Virgins album cover.

On second thought, don't look at the cover. :D

I guess you can be pretty selective, and controlling.....when you're sitting on top of a gold mine. She remains, essentially, enigmatic.

From what I've heard, she built most of that gold mine, with the base being what John made as a Beatle. He credited her with having the business sense in their relationship.

Now whether that's true or not.....

When you're sitting on a gold mine the best thing to do it let it out slowly but steadily. Keep that revenue stream steady.

I read just recently that there is not much else out there that Yoko can release. The article said there were some piano pieces but the vocals were recorded terribly and wouldn't work for release. So this is it. For now.

A lot of what was available from the home studio was used in the movie Imagine, and what else was left was pored over by the remaining 3 and Yoko to see what they could come up with for the anthology, which turned out to be Free As A Bird and Real Love.

It's all repackaging from here on out.
