I have an original Deluxe Balladeer, which appears to be the same as this GC, except the fretboard inlays and fretboard binding, and, obviously, the GC name on the truss rod cover. I'll be selling it in a little while, because I enjoy my LX so much and, now, I'm getting afraid to play a 35 year old guitar. I'm thinking it'll be better in an OFC'er's hands who may better utilize it than I'm able to do. Thought I'd see if Standingovation would take a look at it for me and help me post pictures. I'd want to wait until the Phoenix temps go down before driving it over for Dave to look at.

I'm the first to admit that this is an emotional purchase. I saw GC play one on tv 35 years ago and fell in love with it, both the look and the sound. It's probably a stupid purchase, but it will get played. A lot.

As you know, my '68 GCDB is the guitar Glen played in the opening scene of the very first Goodtime Hour Show, out in the audience with John Hartford. This makes it literally, for millions of people including 12-year old me, the first Ovation they ever saw. I can still remember the visual appeal of the non-traditional, non-dreadnaught round-back styling. I just knew I was going to have to get one of those guitars somehow, someday. Little did I know how literal that prediction would be. These guitars definitely have the mojo. Just one minute point of interest...did you notice that this guitar in the auction has the nineteenth fret inlay like the then soon-to-be-introduced GC Artist? Mine doesn’t have that, nor does the ones that Dave has, as well as others I have seen pics of. I assume that the later ones in the run had that. Anyway, bring that baby on home, Paul...it's not a stupid purchase! Wayne

I do have a picture of Glen and John Stewart from the first year of the Goodtime Hour. Glen's playing a GC DB with his initials on it and it has the inlay at the 19th fret. Sorry Tony. I'm still going to go for it.

As far as I've been able to find out, Glen had two of the GCDB guitars; mine, and the one you mention which had the extra nineteenth inlay as well another extra inlay between the initials at the twelfth fret. As far as I know, Glen still has this guitar. I have a March, 1969 GTH show with a segment where both guitars are being used...Merl Haggard is playing mine and Glen is using the other one. This is one of the shows that had been re-run a couple of years ago so you may have it on tape. Wayne

It is a musicians circle segment with Glen, Merle, and John Hartford. They do "Today I Started Loving You Again" and "The Legend of Bonnie and Clyde" Wayne
