If you were out to buy an Ovation 6 string and wanted the best buy, which would you choose? The 1719 Custom Legend or the 1771 LX-5.
(Hopefully I want get a 50/50 response..ha)

Thanks...

Money issue aside....I would take the Legend.
I like the way it is presented. I think you would be getting what you paid for.
Hard choice....It's one of those "Who ya gotta throw off the lifeboat" questions.

I'm gunna throw in with Brad & vote for the Legend for a very technical reason: I think it's prettier.

How about this:

They are still making the LX's and in fact they may even get better/more options. You may be able to get a "Custom" LX in a year or two.

The Legend with the inlay and gorgeous handwork is aged and waiting for you now. It looks to be a good value as well.

I am a sucker for the abalone and that one looks good.

If you get the black LX - which is very nice - you will soon become aware of how much spit, dead skin, hair and greasy finger prints your body exudes.

What kind of sound are you looking for? The Custom Legend will have a deeper sound, the LX a brighter sound.

Just keep flipping until the result you want comes up? Huh. I *thought* that was you I saw in Vegas last week, Bill!

:)

(Just kidding, I didn't see W2 in Vegas...although I did see lots of people that followed his approach )

Geez, Mike. I almost said something to the effect that black guitars really look great when they're clean but they are difficult to keep that way. You managed to say it much more disgustingly. Thank you.

Yeah...I would go with the natural finish before the black. I like the abalone also. And the carved bridge.

I'm glad to see some people show up in here. We had dead ether for three hours or so. I've been sitting here pickin' my old Pacemaker & waiting for somebody else to show up.

Probably pay about the same for either. If I was buying an LX center soundhole, I would go with the 1777 LX.

Is the 1719 in great shape? Only looked at one photo (photo of OP-24, usually found if the screws are corroded, etc., something else may be "wrong" about the guitar.)

Personally, if both are in very good condition, I would go with the Custom Legend.

Black is beautiful baby, but it's also high maintenance!

For the LX's I am a multi-hole advocate. Waiting for the Custom Elite LX 12 string in natural. Probably with the OP 60 Pre-amp.

Get the Custom Legend today, and a 1778LX next month.

Meticulous people and those who don't care get along well with black. Go with the CL unless your one of the above.

Fantastic Response. Definitely appreciate the up front opinions. Waiting for a reply on the CL. I was leaning that way but am 99% short in experience so thought I would put it to those who have "been there, done that" so to speak...

Again... Many thanks...
Will let you know how it goes... :D

I'll vote for anything with a -4 finish. :)
