A friend of mine has an Adamas 2 that is doing something weird. When you play the low E string at the third fret, the guitar makes a kind of buzzing sound, of a rattle that seems to be coming from somewhere in the guitar. But, if you put a capo at the third fret, the low E string does not buzz. I can't figure it out. Even if you push down hard on the E string at the third fret you can make the buzz stop. But playing it as you would usually do, the E string makes that buzz at the third fret. It is not a fret buzz, it seems like the sound is coming from inside the guitar. Any idea what is going on? Could this have something to do with the nut? Thanks.

Rattlesnake inside?

I've had a weird buzz before involving tequila & some other things, but I quit drinking & haven't had that problem since...

Paul, you shouldn't call your friend a "nut"....sheesh

I got a buzz one time on my Adamas, it was on the third fret only it was my G string, turned out to be a flat spot worn on the bottom of the string. Since I'm not good enough to play all over the neck, the top frets get most of the wear... New strings fixed it... It was hard to find as it sounded like it was coming from the bridge, or the body...weird... Actually I think I read about something similar in a search of this sight that even made me look for it...
Good luck,

Dale

Since I put the .12s on my Elite, it does that buzzing thing. I flipped out and thought the extra tension had busted a brace loose or the bridge or something equally frightening. Then I discovered that with added effort during fretting certain notes, the buzzing would go away. Also, if I avoid playing so 'stridently' it's not so noticeable.

Now, let me tell you about the buzz I got off a couple of Heineken's last night...note to self: remember to eat and drink lots of water. :)
