We can never please everyone, but I find it unfortunate that some choose not to visit the site because of language or sexual inuendo etc. Sure I have crossed the line myself. Others have went far over it but you just don't know what will trigger what synapse in which person. We have female members on this board and those that are under 18. For the most part, there is just a lot of good natured fun and nothing far out of line. On a number of occassions I have asked members to tone down language. I refuse to censor anyone, remember only one person was ever given a vacation from this message board. Please remember that if you type something and you would not want your son or daughter reading, then edit it. I think that is a simple rule to follow. Respect all that visit this board. This brings me to the next topic. Miles told me that he wants to update the message board and the chat software. He was going to do this when the site was down a while back but I don't know what since has happened. Anyway, when this happens we will have a few more catagories on the message board so, if you are interested in the off topic posts of someone you can visit a special area to do that and if you want playing techniques or guitar information or gear information there will be a place for it. This way you won't have to wade through items that are not of interest to you. This will organize things and hopefully make the message board more functional. I appreciate all who participate. I know we cannot be everything to everybody, but as we grow, hopefully we can change with out community. The more we post, and become familiar, the more the message board looks like an "old boys club" than the informative place that it always has been. Thus the need IMHO for an off topic area. thanks for reading.

I might not visit an off topic site very often, not because I don't like the people here, but because I do.

As one who joined early but didn't participate for a long time, I have noticed that there is a lot of good natured teasing and joking that goes with the territory of being a 'club'. It gets off color at times, not to mention off topic, but usually doesn't get what I would consider terribly offensive. An off topic area would allow more of that to occur, as perhaps would a mention in the 'welcome' section that on a bulletin board like this some of the participants are 'characters' (You know who you are!!) It's just another way of my saying that bulletin boards are not perfect.... though we come close, eh?

(pick a number, if it makes it easier) And yes, I do in fact consider myself one "who knows WHO he is". In fact, I consider that to be an attribute to my . . . . "character". ;)

Speaking of fun, has anybody figured out what Russ is up to these days? Hmm, I wonder what it will take to reach "Character" status around here.... /\/\/

Applying to me would be #3 or #7, although my wife thinks #6. We probably need to warn people about #13, and explain it is due to #15. Seriously, I don't know how to answer that question.... It is hard to improve on treating others with the respect one would like in return, but some people are going to take offense at some posts. Most of us that post here regularly have a feel about where each other is coming from and allow for that. It is almost always good-natured, even when coarse. Oh, well.... Take it in context and skip what you don't like. Omit the context and some of it gets quite strange (Bailey's recent ET thread comes to mind, though in context it was hilarious.) Please forgive the ramble.... the 'huskers barely escaped Pitt and the drama of a new coaching staff and system following the horror of last year's coaching change far overshadows this matter at the moment. Sorry, Al, if I haven't helped your cause.

IMHO, it will be pretty lonely on the sanitized option. As to the practicality of splitting the board, not sure how the software would be able to discriminate based on age. Off topic? One of the amazing aspect of this board is to watch a thread wander off topic, sometimes returning to the original purpose but always entertaining. No place for flaming and vulgarity. However, I don't see any reason to invite "Miss Manners" to be our moderator. This very diverse group has always assisted women, youngsters, and newbies of any gender and age. In fact, I have seen the members of this board go out of their way to assist some of the most basic, but important, questions. Try to find that on boards of other guitar brands. I don't remember any posts that were intended to abuse, intimidate, or ridicule anyone. If anyone is tempted to step over the already established "line", I would suggest continuing the thread off line by email.
