I can't speak to the differences between the S868 and the LX 6778, not having had experience with the S868. I've played the LX 6778 and thought it was a really nice guitar, just not right for me. What I can speak to is, go play them. Pick the one you like the best based on sound, feel and looks. Make sure you have someone play them both for you, and listen to the sound from the "front side". In the long run, that will insure that you've made the right decision for you. And Welcome to the OFC. Paul V.

Basically, play all the O's you can get your hands on at a local and reputable dealer....that will help narrow it down. But the Elite is a fantastic guitar and well deserving of consideration plus sounds great for a non O-holed guitar. I would also recommend you try the Elite LX too. Good luck! Play On! John L. Can you let us know what it is you like about and why have you decided to get an Ovation? It may help in the decision of which one you should get. I have a Custom Balladeer and and Elite LX and would hate to surrender either one. They are 30 years apart and as different from each other as you can get!

What would be your ultimate "end use" for the guitar (playing out, recording, playing at home)? (I have to confess that I invited Paul "over here" when he posed the "O" question on another board - and got (to a degree) the typical response. I assured him that this could be a place to come for some "objective" feedback . . . )

I have a Fender DG22S and a Washburn C80S both with Fishman Matrix pick-ups. I run them through a Fender Acoustasonic amp. I feel it is very difficult to get good tone and balance with these guitars so I looked at the Ovations. I play in the worship band at church and sometimes coffee houses. So there it is in a nut shell. Thanks Paul

I like the 1778LX I have but in our Praise Band I end up playing the CL12. If you are buying used - wich has more risk but greater value - network with some of the OFCers. New is waranteed and fresh. You will find these excellant tools. I use the preset options on the LX-OpPro as well as the Op50 for the CL12. Soundboard people love them - no issues. Peace
