I have done my research and have come up with a variety of opinions from "doom" to "Don't worry".

The issue is over the washboard effect in a wood top - when the grain has hi-lo spots enough to be felt. I understand it to be an indicator of de-humidification and could lead to cracking if severe enough.

My question is over how much is "Normal"?

Does it look worse due to thinner finishes?

I have humidified the heck out of my 6759 and 1112, in the case. Both exhibit some washboard. I can see were my 1778 has a small amount. I live in a fairly moist climate and i need your input.

What say the Board?

The board sayeth that sometimes too much humidification can cause the washboard effect. Do you have one of those measuring devices that tells you the humidity in the room, not the case? If you're in the 40% area I wouldn't worry about it. Out where you are I wouldn't think that it's a big deal to worry about anyway. CT in the winter is a problem. Summer is fine and Florida never a problem. I don't do anything for my guitars and don't have problems. When I lived in CT, in the fall (when the heat came on) all the necks would warp and need to be adjusted. Along about May they'd bow back and need relief. I don't have that problem in Fla although I understand the humidity is rather high now!

He certainly does a nice repair job, that's for sure.

Back when we had one of the last go-arounds about humidifiers someone who would know (can't remember who it was for sure) gave a rather broad range of acceptable humidity levels. According to my local weather channel we're almost always in it, so I quit worrying about it. I use plenty of Dunlop 65 where it's needed, wax the necks that need wax, oil the things that need oil & hope for the best. What will be will be. So far so good.

I'll just have to stop and smell the redwood.

I have a remaining question. Are there several of you out there that have a washboard effect on your instruments top but have seen no problem with it?

My 1612 has a ripply top. Makes me nervous sometimes but it hasn't cracked so far. Not there anyway. It has two tiny hairline cracks in the clear next to the fretboard extension but you have to look very close to spot 'em. They go with the grain & are very hard to see. Been that way since I bought it a year or so ago.

Just a note

Fret Not Guitar Repair is, or was, a year or so ago, run by a very knowledgable lady who I had some very nice email exchanges when I logged on her site and mentioned that I spent 3 years in Newport News and was very happy while there. It is a great site for information on guitar maintenance and repair, and was introduced to me by someone on this site. I strongly reccommend adding it to your "favorites" for future reference.

I have some "high-low" spots on my CL12 that I can feel, especially when wiping with a cloth. It's the bracing I feel on mine. The knowledgable here have told me to fuggettaboudit.
