One has a set-screw in the saddle just below the tone and volume knobs that secures the battery. One does not. Is this differencee due to design change over the term of production?

If you get a rude reply from my steriodal spaminator, please, don't take it personally. I will rescue you from the viagra and male enhancement adds, without you having to go through the "allowed sender" process.

The battery is mounted inside the body directly to the underside of the tone knob. I have to hire a petite Asian woman to change the battery. I understand why Ovation would add the screw to make battery access less a practice in contortion.

As follows: Jeff Whitehead wrote: Paul Thanks for taking the time to address my question. The OFC site is excellent. I have attached a picture, though jaundiced, it still shows the screw in question. My other 1537, an earlier model number has no such screw holding the battery. Paul Responded: Jeff: My 1537 has the same screw. I was, before hearing from you, under the impression that all the 1537's had that screw. Where is the battery on your other 1537 and how is it held in place. Also, the serial numbers on the 1537's started at about 301000. Mine was right around 302400. About where are the serial numbers on your 1537"? Jeff Responded: Thanks for responding so quickly. Sorry you had to suffer the wrath of my spam blocker. Would you mind if I copied our email exchange to the OFC bulletin board? Just want to add to the already massive knowledge there. My model numbers are 301081 & 301904. The 301081 has no battery screw. The battery is mounted inside the body directly to the the underside of the tone knob. I have to hire a petite Asian woman to change the battery. I understand why Ovation would add the screw to make battery access less a practice in contortion. How much do you love the sound of these Beauties? Thanks again, Jeff Paul Responded: Go ahead and post this on the board. It's new information and everybody will enjoy it. 301081 is a very early 1537, probably from the first few weeks of production, definitely from the first month. Don't ever let that puppy go, or make any modifications in it. It's early, rare, and devserves to remain stock. My 1537 is my "forever" guitar. I love all my other Ovations (especially my 67/68 Deluxe Balladeer -- totally different sound but just as wonderful), but I always come back to the 1537. I've had it over 11 years and will never part with it. When I plug it in, I go thru an eq box (hey, the electronics are 21 years old) to add some warmth, but that's it. If you want a real treat with yours, have somebody sit across from you and play it. The sound you get when you play it is wonderful, but the sound you'll hear when somebody else plays it is just incredible. Paul

She doesn't change the batteries in my 1537, but she keeps my charged enough :D As long as we're talking about 1537's I have a couple of questions.. 1) I've only seen 2 1537, mine and one for sale at a nearby pawnshop. You can see the bracing on the top. Do they all have this "feature" ? 2) What strings do YOU think sound best on a 1537? I'm currently trying Fender DuroTones lights. So far so good.

It does, of course, have the set screw in the side below the vol. knob. I play mine directly through an old Trace and don't find it necessary to run it through a preamp to get great acoustic reproduction. Most guitars will not hold a candle to this model. It is rich - plugged or unplugged - a superior guitar in every way. I am still amazed and very thankful to own a 1537. Sincerely, Jon Van Gilder (whose firstborn daughter is getting married in the morning.) Song to follow :D
