Location: Warren,Pa. | Arthritis in the joint where my thumb meets my hand is becoming a slowly increasing problem. I own a CL 12 and a '97 Collectors' with narrow neck (both ends of the neck spectrum). I played a lot yesterday and that narrow neck is a REAL advantage for me. I'm now considering a full-size 6str. with a narrower-than standard neck. What are my Ovation options? I know the Elite T is one, but it's a bit too modern looking for me. With all the new tooling at the factory, do you think I could get a more traditional looking guitar with a narrower neck? I know I'm rambling here. Just looking for greater minds than mine to think with me. Thanks. John <>{ |

Location: Pacific Northwest Inland Empire | Probably anything that ends with "7". Basically, an Elite neck, so I'm told. I will attest my 1127 "Connelly" is a real pleasure to play. Actually, Ol' Faithful, with that old '60's neck, is really easy on the aching joints. And, John, I hear what you're saying about the thumb joint; I have to hand-write several mental health evaluations daily, and have been to a hand therapist once, already.
Now, who's rambling.........? |

The Custom Legend 12's are 1 7/8ths (1 14/16), the Custom Legend 6's are 1 11/16 - same as the 1997-N parlor.
As to the Ovation 6's - think this true (1 11/16) throughout the line. Even the 2002 Collector's is 1 11/16.
Can be a difference in the shape of the neck which might help. |

Location: Carle Place, NY | I have found that older Ovations with the original five pice neck and truss rod (not the Kaman bar) have the thinest neck profiles. I think that the Kaman bar was introduced in '82-'83. Just look for any older legend/balladeer model with a truss rod cover and you will get a guitar with a very thin neck. |
