Just "won" an Adamas II off ebay- serial # 5479 for $800.

I was the only bidder. I am cautious about buying off ebay, so I hope this is the real deal. His feedback seems ok, anyway.

I think I have more than exceeded my buying quota for the next 5 years and will stop here.

Let us all know how it looks and plays when you get it...never got an answer back from seller when I asked questions.

Enjoy...

Thanks. Now I'm worried, though. I was wondering why no one else bid on it. Hope I don't get bit on the a__s...

Thanks again, Tony. Post ebay bidding jitters...ha. too many horror stories but I couldn't pass this one up.

What kept you from bidding besides no replies from the seller?

Wemedge, I looked at it the other night and it looked a touch rough in my opinion. The cosmetics around the controls is not good, rusty screws, dirt/dust. The fingerboard looks like it needs a couple of applications of lemon oil, looks dry and not taken of.

The whole thing just looked in need of TLC, that is probably why it didn't draw much interest. So it may be a gem waiting for your loving touch. At this point, I'd be optimistic that a good cleaning and set-up will yield a winner.

My 83 Country Artist cutaway looked like crap when I picked it up. Took it home, cleaned it up, put gold tuners on it, and it may be one of my most beautiful guitars. It was a diamond in the rough.

On a diet...one a week?

I would probably have wanted to have the seller send to Kim for TLC...already have my 1776 Patriot back there that, per Kim, is coming out "as new", even a new case.

Saving up for an Adamas I 12-str, the OFC, and 30th Anniv Adamas (both, if they have a 12-string.) Figure Al will be "dealer of the month" soon!

Thanks, guys for the comments, I feel much better now.

Will let you know when I receive the guitar and give it some TLC- a bit of cleaning and setup.

You tend to hear the horror stories about ebay, you don't hear the thousands of good ones. I've had no problems in 75 deals and only once was there a problem, mostly because I assumed too much and didn't ask enough questions. So it just took a little more to repair the Duolian and it's fine now. If you're careful going in there usually aren't problems.

It arrived! and in one piece...

Initial impressions were not encouraging-

It was shipped in the case only with NO box (!)...The case itself is cracked (not from shipping) but I think I can repair it. Time to break out the Bondo and fiberglass resin.

The seller should take shipping lessons from Al. When I ordered an Adamas from Al it came packed wonderfully and in immaculate condition! Oh well, ebay...

The guitar itself, however, is beautiful and in very good shape, all things considered. I love the blueburst!

Cleaned, set up and strung up with Elixirs, it sounds wonderful, like an Adamas should. I love the neck. Soft V, smooth and finished. The guitar as a whole just feels right...

The not-so-good: the previous owner played the heck out of the first 3 frets. Major divots on the fretboard in this area and frets 1 to 3 are shot, too low for a level and crown. The rest of the frets are ok.

I considered a complete refret but I don't want to stress the neck too much if I can help it. It plays well now except for a buzz on the third fret due to the low fretwire. Next week I plan to fill in the divots, do a partial refret and dress the frets. Will hold off on a complete refret unless I really have to.

All in all, I'm happy with the guitar. I feel like I have the best of both worlds with my recent black Adamas II's oiled neck and ebony board and the blueburst's finished neck with the walnut fingerboard. Lovely.

Yes, you guys were right! A little TLC really made a difference. Thanks for the encouragement.

That's a good point...everyone hears the negatives about eBay and PayPal, but never the good stuff. I've done 122 deals on eBay since I joined in SEP 00 and the only 'bad' experience I had was a winning bidder who couldn't pay. No biggy, I relisted and sold the item(s) again. Heck, I even bought $40k+ worth of Sun gear off eBay once for a project (that's what I paid, the kit was going for significantly more on the street). That was a high-profit-margin job. HAHA.

I think common sense is the key to not getting burned on eBay.
