I recently bought a 1613 Nylon Classical deep bowl 80's model on e-bay. A friend of mine has the same model, but his is Spanish Pine. The one I bought has a ceder top (this is from the seller). Did they make these with different tops? Also the top has a slight crack in the finish. I've been told that this is common for the Ovations produced during this period and they since then have changed their finish. Is this true? I have a 1619 CL, that I bought in 1982, and the top is flawless. I'll defer to the experts and O nylon string owners.

Yes, the tops changed from Spanish Pine to Cedar. I don't recall the year. They do sound somewhat different. I would not worry about the finish crack.

Great guitars on your web site. I dig that that black nylon string. How long have you had it? If you want to part wih it, I would love it.

My cedar topped 1613 also has a crack in the finish. Doesn't hurt anything.

BTY, how does that Spanish Pine top compare to the cedar top sound-wise???
