And was reading the prodigious song list :cool: ...do they really know all of those songs? :confused: ... and noticed his comment regarding the lack of songs beginning with "X".
Didn't "Rush" do a song called Xanadu? Or was that Olivia NJ (bleah!)? A 2MG cover of an ONJ song.... Imagine that! :rolleyes:

Location: SoCal | I'm ashamed to admit that I know this, but Olivia Newton John also did a song called Xanadu. Boy, I'd pay serious money to see Cliff doing covers of her tunes. Just for the embaraasment factor. |

There are a couple of songs on there that we started to learn and my partner "jumped the gun" and listed 'em (even though we don't really DO them). The very vast majority of the songs we DO in fact know/do.
Two Words: "Fake Book".
(Actually it's a big 3-ring binder on a music stand with the lyrics/chord changes.) A lot of the stuff we know "by heart", but a bunch of it, one of us (or both) might not quite have memorized all of the words/changes. It's a bit of a "crutch", but we both have such hectic friggin' schedules that most of the time, the ONLY time we have to practice is AT the next gig! When one of us has a suggestion for a new song to do, we'll print it out on a sheet, throw it up onto the stand and "run through" it after we set up & tune (if we have time) or during a break (if we take one).
Most time, one of us will just pull it out and put it up there during a set and say "just follow me". It goes horribly wrong sometimes, but most times it works and nobody really knows that we've never done the song together before.
The website REALLY needs to be updated!
There's a bunch of songs that we now do and don't even have listed there. My partner Rick's mom maintains it for us. I designed the "look", and she makes it work. I have a file that we use for the "background" of the opening page that I update periodically with our schedule. I e-mail it to her and she just swaps out the file. I'd really like to update it more, but there's just no friggin' TIME. (what else is new?)
. . . I'll have to look into the Rush song just to have something in the X-file . . . . Olivia's "Xanadu"??? . . . the only thing that I hate more than the song was the fucking MOVIE! |

Location: Yucaipa, California | hmmmmm... 3-ring binder(s) full of songs on a music stand... that's how I do it too! Way too many songs for my poor old brain to process... I'm fine if I have the chord progressions listed, if not, well "GCD" usually works...and the Capo...

Evidently, in 1994 there was some minor "hit" on the Country (figures! :rolleyes: ) charts called "XXX's and OOO's (An American Girl)".
Don't know who did it (I wouldn't "fess up" to it, either).
I somehow doubt that it would make the TwoManGroup repertoire. |

Location: Lake Hiawatha, New Jersey | I've got a 3 ring binder myself but it's just for lyrics. I'm not good enough to be able to read changes and lyrics during a performance. Cliff and his partner do a very good job of it. Even better is when they are going through the book while deciding what to do next. They normally reserve this time for some good natured verbal jousting which is also very entertaining. |
