THAT IS THE GREATEST, did you ever meet Bob Nolan, the Sons of the Pioneers surfer?

Sonny, yes I have played one. And again I don't need to go into my feelings about this guitar. It just get me to worked up. (lol)

Aw c'mon. Was there a dealer in Lafayette that had one? Is it still there? I have a friend in Gretna who may be interested in driving one.

Sonny, I did not play one in Lafayette. I was in Dallas when I had that displeasure. Tell your friend to look on ebay. Does your friend come to Lafayette much? Also, tell him he can find an older Ovation on ebay that is a WAY better guitar than the MOB for less money.....Paul Hebert

I'll pass along advice but think it's the vibe of the MOB that he's interested in. I'll tell him to call New Orleans dealers.

Bailey,

‘Did I ever meet Bob Nolan?’ No, but I worked one summer for a Gun Smith in Long Beach in the late 60’s who know him. This guy was an x cowboy stuntman for one of the studios in Hollywood. He played the guitar a little and was a quick draw expert. He liked to play Ghost Riders and Cool Water. Anyway the story goes he had met Bob on some movie set and said ‘if you’ll teach me Cool Water on the guitar I’ll teach you how to quick draw a Colt single action Army and hit a bear can from the hip at 50 feet.
I was left with the impression that neither learned the others craft very well.

Shooting a bear in the ass with a six gun sounds kinda dicey to me, even from 50 feet.

I guess it could have been a "Hamms Bear" can :)

Mike

I had to ask about Bob Nolan as he was rumoured to be very unlikely to show up for a Sons of the Pioneers session if the surf was up. Good story, I am and always have been a big fan of the Sons of the Pioneers and Roy Rogers, I was never so happy as when I saw them playing a roundback mandolin just like my vintage roundback Washburn. Caused me to go through my complete "Son's" repertoire on it, "Empty Saddles", "One More Ride", Tumbling Tumbleweeds", "Blue Prairie", "Cool Water", etc. before I traded it in on a Martin acoustic preamp for my B.B. jr on one of my mandolins. Again, good story.
