I have been playing my Balladeer for most of the seven months I have been on this deployment in the Middle East. However, when I have been able to get on the Fan Club web site, I have seen several people talk about the Viper. How much difference is there between a Balladeer and a Viper? Would a Viper use an acoustic amp, or an electirc guitar amp? Do they play quite a bit different, or or they dimilar to play? Thanks

Chuck,
They are quite different in that the Balladeer is acoustic and the Viper is basically a solid body. The neck is relatively the same but longer (joins the body up past the 14th fret) It can use an acoustic amp just fine, but you need an amp since there isn't much sound without one.

Chuck,
Just to clearify, there are TWO types of Vipers people talk about on this site. One is the old Viper Solidbody. Not sure it had a model number. It's a true single cutaway solid body with either two or three pickups. I'm not a history expert, but I think they were made in the late 70's to mid 80's. Check the gallery page under Moody PI and also mine and others and you will find some pictures. The "other" viper is a chambered "solidbody" available in either Celebrity or Ovation USA models. I think models CV-68 and EA-68 or something like that. You can see these on the Ovation official site. The "old" and the "new" vipers are two totally different instruments. I never owned or even played one of the new ones, but I saw Shania Twain play one on TV once and it looked really nice - so did the guitar. Dave

Al, what'sa new US Viper go for?
Do they come in a 12-string?

I was admiring yours at the OFCJam and I thought it sounded really good. I should've asked to take it for a "spin", but there was just so much going on.

I can only post msrp because of my dealer agreement it is 2K for the viper plus a case the current catalog only has 6 and nylon six but I am sure they will build you a 12 for a few more bucks.
If you are interested e mail me and I can work out a price for you. I also have a couple of used vipers on my website and one that I need to post a pic of soon.

That's cool, Al (that's all that I was expecting anyway). I was just curious on the Viper's pricepoint.

Are the used ones US models?
