Location: Nova Scotia, Canada | Here is a pic I stumbled across of Glen Campbell's old blond Thunderhead. Unfortunately it has been quite modified; Givsun type humbuckers and different knobs, switches, and pickguard. Also shown is another of the shiney bowl GC six-strings...looks like it is an Artist depth bowl. Glen still owns both of these instruments.

One other thought, Glen had a toggle switch on his Thead instead of the knob for pickup selection. This guitar looks like it has the knob again. Wayne, where did you find this picture? |

Location: Nova Scotia, Canada | Paul, the guy is the tech who does much of the work on Glen's guitars, but I didn't wish to post his name in an open forum. The pic is on his website. Yes, the guitar used to have a toggle switch where the blender control would normally go...one of the changes. Note the "G<>C" inlay at the 12th fret, obviously the old GTH thead.

This guitar tech is Richard Beck. His shop is not far from me here in Phoenix and I get all my work done there. Currently he is fixing a broken off lip on a headstock for me. He does great work. Check out his website. I think these guitars were given to him by Glen. If you stop in his shop you might get lucky and see Glen there himself.

On a different note, has anyone ever tryed or looked into doing a stop-tailpiece conversion to a trapeze equipped Storm series? This has been done to many an Gibson ES-335 over the years to increase sustain.

I don't think you can do it. The ES335 is a semi hollow body which means that there's a block running thru the body. The stop tail piece anchors into this.
The Storm guitars are true hollow bodies (like a Byrdland), hence the need for a trapieze tail piece.
By the way Wayne, I've saved all of the pics of your Bluebirds on the hard drive, in the "Guitar" folder. Excellent guitars and great pics. |
