Now I'm a visual kinda guy, I like things that appeal to the eye (like my BEAUTIFUL wife  ),but I also know better than to judge a book by it's cover(that from looking in the mirror),or to think my opinion is the only opinion that matters(back to the wife again ;) ). Seems like a lot of debate. My feeling is that if there is an audience for them, great! My daughter loves her Lotus Electric, my son likes his Fender/Squire Electric, I don't think much of either, and love my Legend and Balladeer, which they literally LAUGH AT! I applaud Ovation for being open-minded enough to introduce something different (how else would I have ended up with a deep-bowl), even if it isn't to be their signature series. Bottom line is those (like previously myself) who prejudge Ovations at first blush for names sake or popular opinion, without the merit of really experiencing them, will have more fuel for their fire...but then again, who cares about them?! However, the young players coming up may have reason to give Ovation a try if they like what they see in the Surf'Up/MOB model. I seen a kid playing a Dadiadato (or however you spell it), he is a budding talent, that loves playing guitar. I asked him why he plays that particular guitar, he said because "it looks cool". My feeling is, if the flash attracts him in great! Once he plays a while, he will begin to gravitate to quality. Perhaps this Surf's Up guitar will do the same. In the long run, the Surf may end up selling more higher end Ovations than anything else going on (or not going on) in Ovation advertisement today. Norse(jmho)man1

I do not like everything in every guitar line. I think Martin has way lost touch with their customer base. Givsung makes infierior guitars even their custom shop stuff and the epiphone line has flooded the market with copies of copies of original copies. but what the hell do I know I just sell gear for a living.

But then again, I have not played a whole variety of other O's. As much as the Legend turned me on to O's, and has me seeking other models, I'm sure the Surf will do the same for a younger generation of guitar players. I even ordered one, but I think the level of pro and con this guitar has created, if nothing else (because the comments I'm sure abound in every music store it shows up in) is a good thing. Nothing like a little controversy to jack up brand recognition. Many of you know I'm a big B.C. Rich fan. If you think the way Ovation does things is odd, check out B.C. Rich. You will see a "guitar-a-month" in these wild graphics, all imports (like $400 I think) , and they can't keep them on the shelves. There are also supposed to be 24 (2 a month) Handmade, by the original luthier (Rick Moser) Bich PMS guitars. By handmade, I mean like the originals, not tooled then finished, but hand made. If you can find them on the site, let me know. Also, of the "original Custom Shop" handmades on the site, none have been made in over a year, and probably won't be made for several years to come if at all. This is typical of the competition out there. Ovation in general is a better buisness model, and at least trys to be one step ahead. As others have mentioned, they could be 10 steps ahead with a little effort. While one company is touting guitars they can't even build, Ovation doesn't have their latest Collectors series (as staple sales items) even on their website. They make an Adamas, actually two versions, but to the unknowning, going to Adamas guitars website reveals that they only make two Melissa models, unless you dig deep, and even then it's unclear. It's these subtle things (and there are more) that put ones image above the rest. Attention to detail. I think they are heading in the right direction after a few years of just going with the flow. I think in some small way, our discussions here have prompted some discussions in CT. That's pretty cool. Not every company rolls out the red carpet to their customers fan club, even when they know we don't agree with everything they do. That's pretty cool also. The Peanut Gallery...
