Like a fishing story. I have had GAS for about a year now... You see the 92' Black Custom Legend 1759 was going to be the latest addition... Like a big fish we worked this one for a few weeks. It was an ebay find that never met the sellers reserve. I emailed and asked what his drop dead, got to have price was... I offered $50 less and he pay the shipping... (I told you I was working this one hard.)He accepted! I was pumped. The check took a few days to get to the seller, the Fed Ex just showed up today... A broken head. Snapped off. Fed Ex will pick up the dead body on monday. The seller had it insured... I hope to get my money back in a few weeks. This GAS feeling is boiling now. They better put me in a padded room.
Taking deep clensing...
Hell, I might go get a drink.

What a great idea, Norseman1! If anyone knows how the shipping companies process and liquidate damaged goods, and how to contact them, PLEASE post it here. I love a challenge, and most structural repairs are relatively simple; it's the cosmetics that get tricky.

I believe that happens in Atlanta for both UPS and the USPS and probably fed ex.
There is an e bay seller that has tons of broken stuff so I guess that is where he is getting it. probably buys it by the pallet full. There is another liquidation company that buys guitars that are rejects with severe problems. They are located I think in Tennesee or KY.
Unless you really know what you are doing there are not many user serviceable parts on an Ovation.

Thanks, Al! I will take this under advisement. Unforunately, I seem to be a fair distance from the supply source. Maybe there are some regional centers I could access. As an example, I can access the Boeing Aircraft surplus center in Seattle. They have an amazing array of goods there. Lots of stuff you wouldn't ordinarily expect in a plane factory. Now, you want to talk about "the little kid in the candy store".......Maybe I could work out some deal with a member in the Atlanta area, in exchange for acquiring materials in Seattle. Hmmmmm....'I'm gonna make an offer you can't refuse'.

That is a sad story, it wouldn't be so bad if you had just bought it at retail, but that accident took down some serious bargaining you had done. Is that all their insurance covers is the price you paid? They ought to replace with the same or equal instrument. The only good thing is there are some good Ovations available for pretty good prices.

Sorry to hear your story. We feel your pain.
Do you think the damage was caused by FedEx? If not, FedEx may not pay for the damage. The guitar goes back to the seller & you got nothing. Stuck!!

I work for one of the largest truck freight companies in the states and you'd be amazed at the unclaimed, not damaged material that is left abandoned on docks. We though, must either, throw damaged goods away in the trash or send them back to a larger warehouse in Portland where the material is sold at pennies on the dollar. Unclaimed or damaged freight is becoming big business now.

Woz, was it packed in an Ovation hard shell case? Those things seem almost indestructible to me (he asks as he waits, with bated breath, for his latest GAS treatment to be delivered via UPS).

The guitar was in a "soft" case wrapped in bubble wrap and in a "Fender" reused box. The seller feels like he will have a claim and that once they / Fed Ex "inspects" it he will send me my check. I did say it would take a few weeks. And yes, I know this isn't over until...
I wanted to take the new toy to Hartford at the end of the month and "show it off"... Notice I said the guitar, not my playing.
I just have to be carefull of the "rebound" affect and go out and buy "something" that really isn't what I was looking for. Oh by the way... An older Custom 12 deep with some wear so it doesn't cost a mint is what I thought I had... I will keep my eyes open. Thanks for the kind words everybody.

I have shipped many guitars in gig bags. I wrap them in bubble wrap and make sure to fill the box with newspaper or styrofoam. I ALWAYS put extra cardboard to strenghten the walls of the box and to make it thicker. This really helps. I have had no guitars ever broken but have had a few cases damaged.

I to am sorry to hear about your guitar being damaged. But I must say I would never ship an Ovation witout the hardshell case. I never understood people who carry an acoustic guitar in a gig bag. That is an accident waiting to happen. I would never take my guitars out of the house without their hardshell cases....Paul Hebert
