I'm thinking of picking up a Legend--any thoughts on bowl depth: mid vs shallow vs. super shallow. I play mostly acoustic unplugged.

I'm also interested in this. Does a shallow bowl Ovation still sound good unplugged?

the point about the super shalow is to recuce feedback & make them more comfortable on stage. If you play mostly unplugged buy a mid-depth or a deepbowl (if you can find one) The supershallow don't have the bass response of the deeper guitars. This isn't a fault but is a design feature. A miked supershallow records well & sits in a complex mix nicely.

I would go by where are you playing. On stage I would go for the comfort of a shallow bowl and at home on the porch I love the sound of a deep bowl.

Good Luck

Thanks all for quick and helpful response--I think I'll go with the mid/deep bowl.

I picked a shallow bowl - of course it's the one that was on the wall and that I could put in lay-away and was marked down $400.

I do play standing up in a band and was using my old Celebrity (with a deep bowl). I like it as it is more comfortable, as already mentioned....

Seems to sound OK to me when sitting around the house, too....

I have owned and played all three depth bowls, and unless you are sitting when playing, I would suggest the super shallow bowl

If you want a guitar that has bottom end, the deep bowl is the answer. I still have no idea what a super shallow bowl is good for. I know this though, sound quality is not one of them...Paul Hebert

My 2000 Custom Legend Model 1869 is a super shallow bowl and sounds great either plugged or unplugged. AND... it doesn't slide off your knee when you're playing while sitting down!
