When I started (Mid 70's) It seemed that everyone on stage played one. Ovation guitars in my mind just seemed to be the best, even before I got hold one. I grew up with AM rock and loved all those singer song writers who played Ovations. Somewhere around the time MTV unpluged came out it seems that many players jumped ship for those overpriced guitars that are too delicate to take out of a case. I would love to see more famous guitar players step up and bring there Ovations out of there dusty cases and hit the road. I loved it when Guitar God Jimmy Page came back for his return to Zeppelin songs with Robert Plant and he chose Ovations. Just Great! Thank God for the few die hards out there that stick with a good workhorse that delivers the tunes. OK I will get off my soap box for awhile. I would like to hear from any one else that has a favorite Ovation player.

My favorite Ovation players are all you board members who play and tell us how your Ovation is working and give us some tips on what's good and bad. The stars are fun to listen to, but very few of them give us much insight into their instruments, and too many play one off guitars that we ordinary grunts will never get our hands on unless we sell the farm or win the lottery. Besides, I haven't seen one play a 12 string since Glen on the Good Time Hour, has anybody seen a 12 string?

Based on the "title" of this topic, perhaps Ovation should persue Rodney Dangerfield as an endorsee! It'd make some funny-ass TV commercials!!!

Cliff- Your 100% right. Rodney would be a trip rocking across the TV." I asked my old man for a Taylor and told me I was too fat for a suit"

If ya go to the Ovation site, you will see the list growing again. For a while the "STAR" list was pretty short, but now.... I believe Melissa Etheridge plays her Ovation 12 with pride. I have always loved the sound of a 12 string Ovation and put it on the front and back of my CD (I am just a little old indie country boy) but I just couldn't hold a Gibson or other "country" brand of guitar for the cover pictures like my promoter wanted (www.cdbaby.com/dansauer). I'm proud to play and display my round backs! It's only a matter of time until Ovation is "re-discovered" by showbiz.

While browsing ebay last night I found a Legend 1777-4RM listed by ecmusic.net.

In the discription they state the following:

"It plays very well & has good tone acoustically (for an Ovation)."

Thanks Bailey (or was that Bradley :D )

And I too think they really missed the ball with MTV, especially when UnPlugged was concieved after "dead or alive" with Richie playing the double-neck. I also applaud Dan for not being pushed around by the promo folks. I would think that Gibson and Fender are all over Josh Homme at this point, and he's hanging strong too. I think we'd all be very surprised at how much Ovations are used in the studio.

I was channel surfing today and saw Bob Geldof playing a non cutaway Adamas and had a glimpse of someone else playing a what looked like a Balladeer. It was on MTV/VH1, something about the eighties.

The best Artist I ever saw preform on an Ovation was Adrian Legg at Ovation a few years ago. He set up in the final assembly area about 1995 and blew me away..........Since then we have seen some other artists preform at Ovation or at a company gig. The other notable on my Adamas was Tony Purrone. I will say he is the best Jazz gutiarist since Dejango, and he is lookin for gigs.

The best artists I've ever seen playing Ovations are Al Dimeola, Glen Campbell, Roy Clark and Preston Reed. And they all still play them, I believe.

I have to say that after reading through your comments and the joy of playing an Ovation that there is plenty of respect out there for these fine guitars. I withdraw my skeptic view and I'm going back to being frustrated about how much Django did with a disfigured hand while I fumble away with all ten.

I don't think anyone can improve on that comment, no guitar player in the world doesn't feel that way about Django. We all keep on trying, and thats what keeps the world turning.

One good thing good about the no respect thing it has really brought down the prices of used Ovations. What other US made quality acoustic guitar can you pick up for 3-400 dollars.I own a 71 Martin
D28 and a 83 Legend with the deep bowl. They both have a very unique sound not one better then the other. In fact I recently played a early 70s Glen Campbel 12 string that sounded really nice, alot of bottom and projection. Now I'm looking for a good deal on an older 12 string.

...Warren Zevon (Custom Legend 12 string), Glen Campbell, Al DiMeola..... Pete Townsend used to be on my list, but I think he went from eccentric egotist to A-hole deluxe pedophile pornmeister...which moves him to another list I have.... Speaking of which, I was watching a special on the Branch Davidian catastrophe...David Koresh played an Ovation as well. But....what the hay....Colt 1911's are classic greats, which have been used by good & evil folks....

Ahh, swat274 - you appreciate fine firearms! I've been tempted to ask if anyone here also collects firearms, but off-topics in that direction usually cause more fuss than fun.....and bad Ted Nugent jokes. :-)

Man, that brings up another whole topic... my wife has taken over three of my pistols (luckily she doesn't want the 1911), and made me buy HER a router for Christmas. But being HERS I don't get to use it... Now she is making me build HER a motorcycle to race MX on... I think I live in a parallel universe or somethin'.

You slip into a parallel universe every time you get on this board, this should make your personal life seem very ordinary when you browse around and see the abberrations revealed by some of the postings.
