I bought a 1771LX CCB Balladeer a week ago at Guitar Center. I was looking at the Martin's and Taylor's, Breedlove's and Takamine's. I was about 2 seconds away from saying yes to a Taylor 110 or Martin DCX1E, when suddenly I spotted this beautiful cherry burst 1771-LX sitting in the corner of the room. After a quick review the deal was sealed. I was going home as an Ovation owner. The thing I love most about this guitar is how comfortable it sits against the body with the round bowl. The standard guitars, especially in dreadnought size are a real pain the ribs for me, at a smallish 5'7". I went back and bought a Crate CA30DG Acoustic amp for it and the guitar just sings now. This is definitely one of my favorite purchases in a long time. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D So this brings me to my first question... When plugged in, is it typically better to have the gain on the guitar high and the gain on the amp low?....or.... The gain on the guitar lower and the gain on the amp higher. Is one way a "no-no" ??

Then i set my PA (in your case amp) where i wan't it. This way i can make slight adjustments one way or the other at the guitar. Keep in mind that you don't want to set the amp close to clipping, or you may clip by up-ing the guitar gain. I could be doing it all wrong though, but thats just what i do... :)

It is not always marked, but about 3/4 of the way is going to be close) then the master or amplifier volume setting the actual loudness. This produces the highest potential output with the lowest noise (hiss or hum). I normally run my acoustic/electrics about 3/4 of the way up, as I like to retain a bit of throttle for changes in dynamics. On the other hand, I run my electric at nearly full throttle, as I want the hottest signal going into my other gear. Just preferences and based on some reading but I am not an expert by any sense.

Then they couldn't 'take over' the mix by cranking themselves up all night as their friends tell them "I can't hear you in the mix, man!" All lead players should come complete with a shoulder mount for their monitor amp so no one else in the band has to go deaf to satisfy their ego. ................................ Oh, sorry, that wasn't the question was it? My bad. Ranting. MO: guitar at 80% then set the amp as you like it. Later, when you crank for 'just a bit more' you're less likely to deal with feedback. YMMV.

Congrats on your purchase Yak. That is a GREAT guitar you got...but you already know that :) As for sound, I set at 75% or so on the guitar, then adjust at the amp or sound board....that way I have something left if I need to quick adjust during a song or set...YMMV,PCDFPD,PDR,DDAD,TYFYS.
