Hi all,

I've finally returned from a 45-deployment across half the Pacific Ocean. Great to be home after having two typhoons chase us out of Guam and up to Hawaii. My ship made a couple stops for fuel and International engagements in Guam, Kwajalein Atoll and Pohnpei (Republic of Marshall Islands). We sailed almost 8,000 miles and delivered 85,000lbs of cargo. One of the highlights of the trip was a night of music with the ship's musicians at the recreation center on Kwajalein. It was a full acoustic soundroom complete with amps, drums and a piano. Although it was hot and humid, we managed to play for about 6 hours. It was a blast!

The home is still here, as is roundback collection. My kid seems to have grown another inch and has started high school since I left. The wife still complains about the last 5 pounds she can't get rid of. I was happy to find Jerome's French gather DVD in the mail, it was one of the first things I did. Pulled out the #47RI and played a straight four hours on it this morning. I took the Ute and 1885 with me on the trip.

Hope to catch up on the latest rambling and Dave's words of wisdom in the next couple days.

Ok, so some of you may be thinking "so what, why should I care" but after being away from the keyboard for a month and a half, I'm going through OFC withdrawals and wanted to share ;)

Glad to have you back buddy!

Did the Ute impress all who were open minded at the jam? Gotta think there was a wide selection of makes and models to play and listen to.

The Ute was the hit of the party, EVERYONE wanted to play it. There was an apparent lack of roundbacks at each of our stops. But not to worry, the Ute absolutely blew away the three Takamies, two Rainsongs and a very sweet Martin. I had one of the ranking admirals play her in Pohnpei. The guitar cost more than they make in about six months in their navy. It was a real treat to see the ear-to-ear grin while he played. It make's me appreciate how much I'm blessed with what I have.

As reassuring that it may have been for you to see that your home was still intact, I'm sure you'll appreciate that we haven't changed a bit while you were gone.
You could spend the next 45 days trying to figure out who got new Ovations in your absence, or you could just spend more time with the 47. I can't believe you can play for 4 hours, much less 6. I don't know enough to play for an hour.

Welcome home, Tim. One thing I noticed last June in HI was that Os and As seem to get some respect there. Bounty Music in Maui had a decent assortment.

If I play all the songs I know and then "House of the Rising Sun" 123 times - I too can play for 4 hours :D

Welcome home Tim!

I will second that. :)

Next time don't take the Ute too dangerous. Send it to me and I'll protect it. :D

Welcome back. The Ute was the right choice for the trip, wasn't it?
