I lifted the following directly from the Martin board. Perhaps that's a little unethical...I don't know.
The thread was about country music and I found this post pretty interesting.
..............................
Most modern country is soft pop-rock but with broad a's and dropped g's. Anyway that's what I'm a-thinkin' the thang is about. It sure doesn't speak to me the way traditional country does.

Traditionally, country has been the music of "after". Here's what I mean by that.

Generally, Rock was for "before". It was all about "We're gonna do it," and "hey little girl" and a hundred other variations of "I want you" and "Let's get down".

The music for "during" is Jazz. In fact, the word "jazz" is a euphemism for "doing it". One improvised climax (heh) after the next, riffing higher and higher, oh yeah! That's what Jazz is.

Country is for "after". It's a music full of experience and wisdom and more than a little regret. There's also a lot of "down home" but that's the same thing, because you can't go "down home" until you move away and realize you'd better get "down home".

Would it be accurate then, based on the earlier thread, to say that Air Supply would be for those romantic dinners for one? ;)

Well, at least you recognized the source.

But what about the other music flavours? What tense is Classical? Rap? Techno? Calypso?

Classical is way past tense, Techno is very future tense, Calypso isn't tense at all, it's pretty loose and Rap isn't music so not even classified.

Let me help. The next word would be "Perhaps", meaning much the same as "maybe".

Keep working at it tho'. You're doing great.

Calyso is the OK we're gonna get down, let's show off a bit first. I think Techno is for that lets get down quickly one more time moment. Classical is for the long nap after. Far as I can tell Rap has no real use unless you are in the midst of a mud slinging breakup :)

My Mrs. loves that tune. Cain't seen to make it through the last chorus though.

Mr K - I thought you coined the term "rapshit" to cover this.
