Just a quick question for all you in the know. Is the 1114 folklore (I beleive) made for steel strings or just classical nylon? Thanks!

It's a steel string guitar. Don't put classical strings on it.

Thanks, I really like the slothead look even though the nutwidth is a little larger.

Just one more question/opinion. I am looking at getting rid of a Celeb. and going with either a 1112 or a 1114. They both are deep which is what I want. I realize the fretboard is a little wider on the 1114, but would they both have about the same sound?

I have a 1112 and a 1114 presently and the 1114 is definately louder and boomier.

Partly due to the set up but mostly due to their design.

My 1114 is high on the bridge piece and the bridge is set deeper into the soundboard (12th fret to body). My 1112 is set with light strings and a closer action.

I suggest you play as many samples of both as well as an Elite T before you commit.

Thanks for the info. I have been playing the super shalow bowls for so long that when I finally got my 1115, it sounded soooo much nicer. Not just because it was a 12, but much more.....Ovationish.

The 1614 I have is one of my best sounding guitars. But I guess I could say that about most of them.

jp,
Sorry I forgot about the Folklore when I emailed you. :o

The neck width is the same as your 1115 only with 6 strings.

OK, now for the next thing. (trying not to sound stupid, he says...) What exactly is "nutwidth" I know it has somehting to do with the measurement of the width of the neck, but is it the measurement of the tuners or what. and...thanks Mike for all the help!

The "Nut" is located at the end of the fretboard where the strings go to the tuners.

A standard steel string width is 1 11/16"

A classical is 2"

12 strings are 1 7/8"

Some steel string guitars have a 1 3/4" nut.

The folklore and the Country Artist have a 1 7/8' nut.

OK, so it's the white thing that the strings sit in. Thanks again, Mike. I'm going to owe you a dinner when I get up there!

You,(and a few others), might be interested in this.

Folklore on ebay.

Happy hunting. :D

BTW we call it "The white thingy" at the end of the fretboard. :D

Not to be confused with the white plastic thingy under the saddle. We like to keep our technical terms straight.

Thanks to all for the replies and recommendations. Mike, thanks for the heads up on the one for sale. I did end up picking up that 1114 on Ebay, and it should be here this week. My wife is starting to think I really have a problem. (I think she may be right) Oh well, problem or not, I still love my guitars! :D

Interesting: how did you close the deal? The listing was closed early due to "the item is no longer for sale".

Just curious.

Yeah, I saw that it was pulled, so I emailed the guy, and he said he still had it, as the sale he thought he had fell through. So I made him an offer and he said ok.

Nice grab on a really nice guitar. I had the chance to play MWoody's 1114 at the PN OFC Gathering -- it is definately on the list now. my small hands however, they wish they made this with a slightly narrower neck; 1 3/4 would be nice.

1 3/4 is the ultimate size for a nut width. But would you expect me to say anything less?

Well, thanks for sharing that with us Bill. As far as guitars go I completely agree. 1-3/4 is the standard nut width. 1-11/16 is skinny neck. 1-7/8 is wide neck. 2 inches is out of my league. Actually one of my favorite guitars is spec'd at 1-13/16 but that's a little like splitting hairs. Dave

"Nice grab on a really nice guitar."

Thanks gh1, I have been looking for a deep body, strictly accoustic Ovation and was considering a 1112, but decided to opt for the 1114 as they seem to have a little more projection. I am used to playing the 1115, so I figured the neck wouldn't be a problem.(I guess I have, what some would call, FAT hands.)
