Joined: August 2003 Posts: 396 | A few weeks back I visited my local guitar center. A few year back I could find an Adamas or two, and plenty of American made models. This time, Not a single American made model. Anyone care to guess about the future of American made models? Are they producing them in much quantity now? If they do, is the future all contour models? (I still haven't played one)

The Big three in the area G.C. Falcetti's and Daddy's have nothing but Used USA "O"s It's CRAZY RIDICULOUS!!!!! and down right UnAmerican! BTW Most of the small shops are out of business. :(

Every once in a great while there'll be a USA standard Elite or Balladeer, but that's rare. I haven't seen a VXT since the initial push either. I'm curious about where most of the USA production goes.

I'll pass along what was told to me once by a decent sized non-GC store when I asked how come he never has any Made in USA O's. "I sell them all the time, several every month. They don't usually make it out of the back-room onto the wall. They are either ordered, or on someone's wish list." Made a lot of sense. I have also heard that in general people tend to "buy" Ovations rather than "shop" for them. By this I mean, while folks will go into a music shop looking for an Acoustic guitar and try a bunch out... many people who actually buy Ovation guitars, already know what they want. They played someone elses, or they already own one or whatever. They are not shopping. eBay, GC, LostArtVintage.com, are they places they buy from.

(That included Celebrity's) But at the time we talked, he had ordered more! He was surprised at the "sudden" enthusiasm for Ovations. Our local Taylor dealer told me that Taylor increased their reqiured minimum order for all their dealers and put many small shops out of business. When I first met him, he said that they didn't sell many Ovations.... Then we talked again and he told me about the order. I told him, "You aren't gonna sell Many Ovations if you don't Have ANY Ovations! Places like GC are going for the Walmart approach... There are some awfully pretty laminate Celebrity's out there. And they figure that most of their clientele can't tell the difference because most of their salespeople don't know the difference. And you can get a helluva mark-up on a Pretty Plywood Celebrity. edit-- I was thinking that Miles. My thought was "they don't have any USO's cuz they get Bought!

They do have 6-8 Celebs, but they also have at least that many US-made O's. They always had a GC Baladeer special (say goodbye to them, I guess), always a couple of Std. Elites, a Baladeer and a Legend.
