Finally found an Ovation in Ireland: Bought a Pacemaker 1615 in Sunburst from a guy just down the road from me. It has a few battle scars but (hopefully) nothing structural. Wow, it takes time to re-string a 12-string slothead!

From the serial no it was made in '79. I have lots of questions - which I will put into words in the next few days.

Firstly, you know those 2 black bits of plastic on either side of the bridge? I'm missing one and the other is loose. What are they called, what do they do, and the loose one fit better when both are in place.

They are visible on the great photos in this post (lucky guy, finding a '79 in mint condition) http://www.ovationfanclub.com/cgi-bin/ubb/non-cgi/ultimatebb.php?ub...

When you contact Mothership just call em the black bits that hold down the saddle / bridge, they will know what you are after.

OH! Them things. My 1115 don't have them.
Ask the Mothership for a Pair while you are at it.
That way you will be sure that they match.
Mine don't have under-the-saddle pick-up, so I was thinking of the bridge bolt plugs.
(which mine don't have anymore either... )

Since you have a pickup (unlike the pics of the 1115), it's unclear if you are talking about the dots that cover the little bolts that hold the bridge down, or the square ends on the pickup.

Which is it?

In any case, in your contact with John or Kim Email them a pic of what you're talking about. Emailing pics to them is clearer than a lot of verbal description.

Just saddle pins. No big deal without them but the factory can send replacements

It's the square ends - my description was not too clear. I'll email a photo to factory as you suggest.

I would say those Black "Thingys" on each end of the saddle. :D

Also found some cracks at the headstock/neck junction - see my gallery for pics. Could these be just in the varnish? Hopefully? There's no sign of movement between the headstock and neck and it stays in tune OK. Also posted a pic of the bridge showing the missing Black Thingy on the right.

They look like finish cracks. One looks like it has a chip out of the finish. But watch it carefully, since there's a lot of stress on that area of the neck with a 12 string.

Probably fell on it's head at some stage (seller neglected to mention that...)

Thanks everyone for your informed responses! Without the OFC, I might never have bought this, my first genuine Ovation, my first solid top acoustic and my first 12-string! I'm worried I have G.A.S. though

Other questions: From the online owners manual, the action is at around the maximum and neck adjustment looks OK, However the action seems super-low for me. Would I be OK to raise it using factory shims? (Haven't checked if any are fitted already)
