I think I want to make a floor lamp.

I would like to find an old Ovation with absolutely no chance of rehab. Multiple open top cracks, caved in top, holes in the bowl, twisted or broken neck, or no neck at all would even work. I have a topless '74 Balladeer with a neck twisted like a piece of licorice that I could re-use on another bowl just for the lamp construction.

I don't want anything that has any chance of being put back together as a functioning guitar, lest I feel guilty about repurposing it as home decor.

I could even use an old broken top if you have all the pieces and binding.

Sounds bad but I could probably still restore it...

ksd,

I have a stripped (no hardware) 1861-4 Standard Balladeer with several surface cracks and no rosette. It may be a rehab 'tempter', but it would make a nice lamp.

The fact is that I have several that you and others would find as candidates but I can't get past the "not repairable" part...

Agreed. It would have to be quite bad off, say a victim of flood or fire damage. Even the Ultra AlPep posted would be too good to trash in my book.

I could take the topless Balladeer and build a nice plywood "top" for it with a shelf inside for coffee cup and ashtray. Not sure how I'd run the 110 cord; too bad the truss rod is in the way.

This is the potential lamp before I pried the top off:
